Job summary

YMCA of Montclair is seeking a Teen Center Lead in Montclair, NJ. This regular part-time role supports youth programming, leads the Teen Center with the Teen Director, and helps plan events for Teen Scenes.

The position requires a 2-year track with teens, 22+ years old, and CPR/First Aid or equivalent within 90 days. Work schedule is Monday–Friday, with occasional Saturdays and benefits including YMCA membership.

Qualifications

• Must be 22 years of age.
• Minimum two years of experience working with teens.
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification or obtain within 90 days of employment.
• AAS/College degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee Teen Center with the Teen Director and supervise day-to-day activities.
• Maintain Teen Center inventory and equipment.
• Provide direct supervision and scheduling for part-time staff.
• Engage teens and communicate with parents as needed after discussion with the Teen Director.
• Promote safety, inclusive programming, and proper conduct of participants.
• Assist with planning and executing teen programming and events.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Teen Center Lead provides leadership, direction, and support, and works closely with the Teen Director to develop programming to include in the Teen Center in addition to events for Teen Scenes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Maintain basic principles of honesty, integrity, and a sincere commitment to our team and our members.

• Oversee program services for the Teen Center with the Teen Director.
• Maintain Teen Center and keep accurate inventory of equipment and supplies.
• Oversee the delivery of day-to-day program activities consistent with established goals.
• Ensure teens are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities.
• Demonstrate leadership to assure proper conduct, safety and development of participants.
• Engage teens in a friendly and age-appropriate manner and communicate with parents as necessary after a conversation with the Teen Director.
• Champion gender and cultural diversity while successfully implementing and monitoring programs.
• Verify attendance and program participation are tracked daily with Teen Center Staff.
• Provide direct supervision and scheduling for part-time staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• Attend Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
• Follow employee and volunteer screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk. Provide employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.
• Provide employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with consumers and require them to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse risk.
• Respond quickly to policy and procedures violations using the Y’s disciplinary procedures and respond seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and follow mandates reporting requirements.
• Communicates to all employees and volunteers the Y’s commitment to protect our members from abuse.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

WORK SCHEDULE:
