Job summary

YMCA of Montclair is seeking a 7th Grade Initiative Staff member to support teen programs in Montclair, NJ. The position is part-time and focuses on leading activities, safety, and positive social interaction among participants.

Responsibilities include guiding teens, assisting with program transitions, and coordinating with the Teen Director to implement engaging activities while upholding safety procedures.

Qualifications

• HS/GED required.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Prior experience working with youth and teens in a camp/daycare.
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR certified within 90 days of employment.
• Excellent human relations, good organizational and communication skills.
• Must be able to follow directions and adhere to policies and procedures.

Salary Range: $16.13 To $16.61 Hourly

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the general direction of the Teen Director, the 7thGrade Initiative employee is responsible for leading program activities, ensuring the participants safety and wellbeing, while providing an environment that fosters socialization with peers

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Use initiative to interact with teens, fostering a welcoming and safe environment.
• Adhere to check in and check out procedures daily with participants.
• Ensure smooth transition between activities with participants
• In collaboration with the Teen Department Lead to create and implement program activities with participants.
• Familiarity with and ability to implement emergency procedures.
• Champion gender and cultural diversity while successfully implementing and monitoring programs.
• Engage teens in a friendly and age-appropriate manner and communicate with parents as necessary after a conversation with the Teen Director.
• Maintain a safe work environment, free of clutter, debris and hazardous conditions.
• Report all accidents and incidents involving self, participants, guests or other employees.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
• Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.
• Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked, will routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker rooms and restrooms) etc.
