Job summary

The YMCA of Montclair is seeking a Regular Part-Time 7th Grade Initiative Staff member in Montclair, NJ. You will lead program activities under the Teen Director, ensure participant safety, and foster social interaction among teens after school.

You will implement activities with teens, follow check-in/out procedures, and maintain a safe, inclusive environment aligned with YMCA values. Training and collaboration with the Teen Department Lead are included.

Qualifications

• HS/GED required.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Prior experience working with youth and teens in a camp/daycare
• CPR/AED and First Aid Certification OR certified within 90 days of employment.
• Excellent human relations, good organizational and communication skills.
• Must be able to follow directions and adhere to policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Interact with teens to foster a welcoming and safe environment.
• Adhere to check in and check out procedures daily.
• Ensure smooth transitions between activities.
• Collaborate with the Teen Department Lead to create and implement activities.
• Familiarity with emergency procedures and ability to implement them.
• Champion gender and cultural diversity while monitoring programs.
• Engage teens in a friendly and age-appropriate manner and communicate with parents as necessary after speaking with the Teen Director.
• Maintain a safe work environment and report accidents or incidents.
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
• Attend Abuse Risk Management training and follow reporting procedures.
• Ensure high-risk locations such as locker rooms/restrooms are monitored.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the general direction of the Teen Director, the 7thGrade Initiative employee is responsible for leading program activities, ensuring the participants safety and wellbeing, while providing an environment that fosters socialization with peers

• Perform all other duties as assigned.
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with members, volunteers, staff, and participants.
• Attend required Abuse Risk Management training and adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising members and participants.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations and follow mandated abuse reporting procedures.
• Ensure unused rooms and closets remain locked, will routinely monitor high-risk locations (locker rooms and restrooms) etc.

HOURLY PAY RATE: Up to $16.61

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, 3:30 PM - 6:00 PM
