  • Organize youth-driven fundraising activities and coordinate volunteer opportunities.
  • Oversee the Teen Healthy Living Space project in partnership with Health & Wellness Director.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent experience

Schedule: Tue–Fri 12:00–8:00 PM, Sat 9:00 AM–5:00 PM

Position Summary

The Teen Director leads the day-to-day operation and strategic growth of teen programming at the Demakes Family YMCA. This includes overseeing a drop-in Teen Center, drop-in basketball, interest-based clubs, and signature programs — Y Achievers, Leaders Club, and Youth & Government — with a focus on career readiness, post-secondary education, leadership, and life skills. The role also drives staff supervision, volunteer recruitment, community partnerships, and fundraising with and for teens.

Programs & Responsibilities

  • Teen Center & Drop-In Basketball: Manage daily drop-in operations, maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for teens after school and on weekends.
  • Interest-Based Clubs: Develop and facilitate a rotating club calendar driven by teen input (arts, STEM, entrepreneurship, fitness, cooking, etc.), partnering with volunteers and community members to co-facilitate.
  • Y Achievers: Lead this college and career readiness cohort, connecting teens with mentors, industry partners, and post-secondary pathways.
  • Leaders Club: Build a teen leadership pipeline focused on service, civic engagement, and personal growth.
  • Youth & Government: Prepare teens for mock legislative processes, developing public speaking, debate, and civic leadership skills.

Program Focus Areas

  • Career Readiness: Resume writing, mock interviews, job shadowing, internships, and workforce preparation.
  • Post-Secondary Education: College exploration, application support, and financial aid awareness.
  • Leadership & Life Skills: Peer leadership, financial literacy, communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making.

Essential Functions

  • Co-develop programming with teens, incorporating their input and feedback to shape clubs, events, and curriculum in real time.
  • Develop and manage operating plans for all teen program areas; evaluate and improve programs through regular assessment and outcome tracking.
  • Hire, train, onboard, and supervise part-time staff and volunteers; provide ongoing coaching and professional development.
  • Recruit volunteers and build partnerships with schools, colleges, employers, and nonprofits to provide guest speakers, cohort leaders, and interest-based programming.
  • Organize youth-driven fundraising activities and coordinate on-site and off-site volunteer service opportunities for teens throughout Lynn.
  • Oversee the Demakes Family YMCA’s upcoming Teen Healthy Living Space in partnership with the Health & Wellness Director, helping to shape programming and ensure the space serves the physical and mental wellness needs of teens.
  • Coordinate special events, leadership retreats, and community activities.
  • Manage department budget, payroll, scheduling, and required reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and local regulations and YMCA of Metro North policies.
  • Resolve participant and family concerns; maintain strong engagement and retention.
  • Support the branch Annual Campaign.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to supervise and actively engage with teens during indoor and outdoor program activities.
