Job Title: Technology Systems Specialist- Public Safety

Under general supervision, the Technology Systems Specialist- Public Safety manages, configures, and programs all law enforcement and public safety routers and gateways to connect remote organizational assets to the Scott County enterprise network.

Job Responsibilities

Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Provides network connectivity to all Scott County law enforcement, public safety, and other County authorized agencies; supports local law enforcement mobile connectivity requirements throughout the Scott County geographical region.

Troubleshoots and corrects all technical, operational, and configuration issues; collaborates with third-party software support teams when appropriate to resolve escalated technical issues.

Completes installation of server and client-side software, patches, and fixes; performs updates and revisions on databases, commercial off the shelf applications, and custom developed codes.

Installs, configures, and maintains departmental information systems including servers, clients, operating systems, networks, and client software.

Administers enterprise evidence management system, sheriff and jail body cameras, and in car video; manages all related servers, storage devices, and applications.

Acts as liaison to departments to determine purchasing needs; provides technical advice and assistance to other departmental staff; conducts appropriate and related user training.

Provides project management for specific technology system projects through entire project scope including budget, planning, acquisition, implementation, launch, and maintenance.

Performs hardware acquisition and repair request/orders with vendors and supported users.

Recommends modifications to system hardware and software as may be required to maintain system integrity and improve system performance.

Implements database security; administers user rights and maintains database of users.

Works with State government on public safety information technology systems.

Performs after hours on call support for all public safety employees, authorized agencies, including 911 center, jail, Sheriff's department, and rural agencies.

Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Standards for Initial Consideration

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
Associate's degree in Information Technology or related field, bachelor's degree is preferred; AND three (3) years of progressively responsible IT experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of:
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.

Customer service methods and practices.

Project management principles and practices.

Technical troubleshooting and diagnosis methods and practices.

Public safety IT systems.

Skill in:
Configuring and programming routers and gateways.

Providing technical support.

Maintaining the accuracy, confidentiality, and security of information.

Prioritizing and organizing work to complete multiple tasks simultaneously and to meet deadlines.

Developing and maintaining current relevant technology knowledge and skill sets.

Preparing clear and concise documentation and reports.

Working effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.

Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Physical Demands and Working Environment:
Work is performed in a standard office environment. Some field work may be required. May be exposed to potentially dangerous tools and equipment, electric shock, and inclement weather conditions when working outdoors.
May be required to climb ladders and lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
May be required to perform system maintenance outside of normal shift hours.
