Salary Range: $28.00 To $34.00 Hourly

THE THEODORE ROOSEVELT PRESIDENTIAL LIBRARY FOUNDATION

“Believe you can, and you’re halfway there.” -Theodore Roosevelt

The Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library (TRPL) is a world-class cultural institution in Medora, North Dakota, dedicated to the life, legacy, and enduring impact of the 26th President of the United States. Our exhibits blend cutting-edge immersive technology with historic storytelling — including conversational AI experiences, large-scale AV systems, and interactive installations built to the highest standards in the industry. TRPL also hosts a robust calendar of internal, public, and third-party events that rely on professional AV production. The technology team is small, highly capable, and responsible for the full technology footprint of the institution.

This role offers the rare opportunity to develop skills across two disciplines — exhibit technology and live event AV production — at one of the most technologically sophisticated cultural institutions in the country.

About the Role

The Technology & Event AV Technician is a dual-focus, hands-on role that splits its time equally between supporting TRPL's exhibit and IT systems and providing AV production support for the institution's event programming. On the exhibit and IT side, this individual assists the technology team with first-response troubleshooting, issue documentation, vendor tracking, and physical repairs across our complex exhibit environments. On the event side, this individual sets up, operates, and strikes AV systems for internal staff events, public programming, and third-party rentals — serving as a reliable technical presence that makes every event run smoothly. This role requires flexibility, a service mindset, and a genuine interest in both the technical and people-facing dimensions of AV and IT work. Evening and weekend availability is a regular expectation given TRPL's event calendar.

Core Competencies

Technical Troubleshooting & Problem Solving
Diagnoses AV, exhibit, and basic IT issues logically; isolates problems, identifies solutions, and knows when to escape.

AV Production & Technical Execution
Confidently sets up, operates, and strikes audio, video, presentation, streaming, and related event technology.

Reliability & Operational Discipline
Consistently follows procedures, completes setups and checks on time, maintains equipment, and follows through without excessive supervision.

Service & Communication
Provides professional, responsive support to staff, presenters, vendors, and external clients; communicates technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.

Adaptability & Judgment
Moves effectively between exhibit technology, IT support, and live events; remains calm under pressure, makes sound decisions, and learns new systems quickly.

  • Provide clear pre-event briefings to presenters and clients on microphone use, presentation flow, and AV system basics.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to technical issues during live events, minimizing disruption to guests and presenters.
