Job summary

The Department Head/Chair of Technologies at Southwest Tennessee Community College provides academic leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for a multidisciplinary technologies unit across multiple campuses.

The role ensures curricular integrity, supports accreditation compliance, manages resources, and represents the department within the college and external community. Teaching one course per semester is included in duties.

Qualifications

• Master’s or doctoral degree in a technology-related field.
• Three years of full-time teaching experience.
• Strong organizational, communication, and administrative skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with an ever-growing college population of faculty, staff, students, and external partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide vision and leadership for departmental programs aligned with college priorities.
• Oversee curriculum design, program development, and continuous review to ensure relevance to industry needs and institutional learning outcomes.
• Lead recruitment, onboarding, and retention of qualified full time and adjunct faculty.
• Support student success through advising and engagement with services and industry partners.
• Ensure departmental compliance with accreditation and institutional requirements.
• Prepare and manage departmental budgets and allocate resources.
• Engage with industry advisory boards and external partners to align programs with workforce needs.
• Lead regular departmental meetings and supervise staff.
