Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory in Charleston seeks experienced personnel to support the Navy training mission by preparing, assembling, configuring, operating, and maintaining vital support systems. You will troubleshoot and repair air compressors supplying breathing air across the NPTU Charleston site, with rotating shifts and occasional overtime.

Limited telework may be available, but regular onsite presence is required.

Qualifications

  • Candidates must have a strong technical background in related field with substantial experience.
  • Experience or education in nuclear propulsion, mechanical or electrical systems is required.
  • Experience and/or training with air compressor operation, maintenance and repair is preferred.
  • Ability to coordinate and schedule engineering support services for customers and stakeholders.

Job Description

Perform work associated with preparation, assembly, configuration, operation, and maintenance of support systems, consistent with qualifications and assigned job tasks. Work entails operating and maintaining support systems to complete the Navy training mission, including the troubleshooting and repair of both high- and low-pressure air compressors which supplies breathing air across the Nuclear Power Training Unit site. This position requires rotating shift work and periodic overtime. This position is not fully remote and requires regular onsite presence at NPTU Charleston. Limited telework opportunities are available, consistent with program needs.

Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 11 years of relevant experience; or Associates degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Journeymans Papers in a related field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Qualification as a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator (or commercial nuclear equivalent) and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Skills
  • Previously qualified nuclear operator in the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program and honorably discharged from the military.
  • Technical experience and/or training for operation of mechanical/electrical equipment; or equivalent equipment.
  • Technical experience and/or training for both high-pressure and low-pressure air compressor operation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Previous experience in operating and maintaining fluid system components to include trending performance and estimating required maintenance actions.
  • Coordinating and scheduling engineering support services for customers and stakeholders.
  • Previous experience in troubleshooting and maintaining power & control systems and programmable logic controllers.

Pay Range

$86,100.00 - $134,600.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston.
