Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is searching for a highly motivated technical professional to join the Information Systems & Technology (IS&T - CHS) organization at the Naval Nuclear Power Training Command (NNPTC) in Charleston, SC. The IS&T organization manages all IT operations supporting both classified and unclassified enterprise networks at NNPTC Charleston. The role operates within a technically diverse and dynamic environment, directly supporting the training of naval nuclear operators.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Utilize a broad understanding of principles, practices, and procedures across all facets of IT operations.
  • Responsibile for network switches, servers, storage devices, security, and enterprise applications.
  • Main duties involve the installation, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting of all equipment and infrastructure relevant to network operations.
  • Routing and testing new network cables, installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing networked clients, printers, switches, servers, and storage devices.
  • Implementing applicable security requirements for associated equipment.
  • Updating and troubleshooting enterprise applications, along with programming and maintaining scripts.
  • Prioritize multiple tasks and projects, regularly adjusting work plans, and integrating work responsibilities within the organization and site.
  • Participate in projects that implement infrastructure, application, or systems solutions, ensuring timely delivery of functional, technical, and security requirements.
Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field; or
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field.
Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of Cisco network hardware, configurations, and infrastructure (CCNA/CCNP certification preferred).
  • CompTIA certifications (A+, Network+, Security+).
  • Experience with installation, termination, and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic cabling.
  • Virtual machine management experience.
  • Vulnerability management expertise.
  • Experience creating and maintaining scripts (e.g., PowerShell).
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Positive attitude and demonstrated ability to thrive in team environments.
  • Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong work ethic and a desire for continuous learning.

Pay Range

$57,500.00 - $88,000.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. We rely on the dedication and innovation of our nearly 8000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel.
