Job summary

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory seeks a skilled welder with a strong background in welding and cutting technologies to support joining tech development and procedure qualifications. You will work with gas tungsten arc, metal arc, laser, and other methods from engineering specs and drawings, maintaining precise records.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent with 2+ years of relevant experience, or an associate’s degree, journeyman papers, or Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Associate's degree in a related field; or Journeyman Papers in a related field; or Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator qualification (or commercial nuclear equivalent).
  • ASME qualifications in the 6G position for carbon steel, stainless steel, and Inconel.
  • Training in welding technology and/or electrical training.

Responsibilities

  • Operate basic material processing equipment such as band saw, cut-off wheel, die grinder, and drill press.
  • Obtain and maintain specific qualifications necessary for assigned tasks (e.g., crane operator, electrical worker/lockout/tagout, environmental/waste handling).
  • Work from engineering specs, drawings, sketches, welding procedures, and technical manuals.
  • Prepare and maintain neat and accurate records as required.
  • Work independently and use available resources to solve issues.
  • Collaborate with technicians and engineers as part of a team.

Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated individual with a background in welding and cutting technologies. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, laser, shielded metal arc, submerged arc, flux cored arc, oxyacetylene, brazing and soldering techniques with manual, mechanized, or automatic control. The work supported in this laboratory supports research and development of joining technologies, technology development, and procedure qualifications in accordance with both Naval and commercial standards. Key abilities in this position are as follows: Operate basic material processing equipment including, but not limited to, band saw, cut-off wheel, die grinder, and a drill press. Obtain and maintain any specific qualifications necessary to perform assigned tasks. Such special qualifications may include, but are not limited to: crane operator, electrical worker/lock out tag out employee, and environmental/waste handling qualifications. You will work from engineering specifications, drawings, sketches, verbal instructions, welding procedures, and technical manuals. Ability to prepare and maintain neat and accurate records is essential.

Required Combination Of Knowledge And Skill

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Associates degree from an accredited college or university in a related field; or Journeymans Papers in a related field; or Qualification as a Naval Nuclear Propulsion Operator (or commercial nuclear equivalent).

Pay Range

$57,500.00 - $88,000.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
