Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Radiology Technologist to perform imaging procedures under a radiologist's direction. The role emphasizes accurate patient positioning, exposure factor selection, and high-quality image submission to PACS.

The position requires graduation from an accredited radiologic program, BLS certification, and ARRT/ARRT credentials as applicable, with potential bone density training. Work is at UAB St. Vincent’s in Alabama with no weekends or on-call.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology is required.
  • Licensure/certification as listed (BLS, ARRT radiography/sonography or ARDMS bone density as applicable) within specified timelines.
  • Experience with imaging procedures and radiation safety guidelines is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform radiological procedures under the direction of a radiologist to provide quality images for diagnosis.
  • Position patients and select exposure factors accurately.
  • Administer contrast media within scope of practice and regulations.
  • Observe patient during procedures and report abnormalities; monitor protocols for updates.
  • Ensure high-quality images are sent to PACS with correct data/history.
  • Maintain equipment function; report malfunctions and lock/tag as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly department and prepare rooms and storage areas.
  • May perform DEXA bone density scans if applicable.
  • Adhere to radiation safety procedures to minimize patient exposure.

Department: Radiology

Schedule: 8:00am-5:00pm Monday-Friday, no weekends, no major holidays, no call

What You Will Do

To perform radiological procedures under the direction of a radiologist. Providing quality images to physicians to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems.

  • Prepare and position patients for imaging and select exposure factors accurately.
  • Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Observe patient during procedure and report abnormal activity. Monitor protocols and recommend updates or refinements as warranted.
  • Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines. Prevent patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation.
  • Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
  • Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
  • Position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
  • May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.
What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable).
  • One or more of the following required:
  • Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Radiologic Technologist specializing in Sonography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required.
