Job summary

UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham North Tower Imaging is seeking a radiologic technologist to provide mammography imaging services, operate equipment, position patients, and prepare procedures.

You will educate patients about breast health, ensure high-quality images for PACS, follow safety guidelines, and may perform DEXA bone density scans. Join a Monday–Friday team dedicated to high-quality patient care in a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• BLS certification within 30 days of hire required.
• Bone Density Certification required within 6 months of hire.
• One or more of: CCI Cardiographic Tech, ARDMS, or ARRT Radiography credentials prior to hire.
• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

Responsibilities

• Operate mammography equipment and perform related procedures, positioning patients accurately.
• Explain procedures and educate patients on the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
• Develop and evaluate film quality for density, contrast, definition, and distortion.
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
• Ensure prompt submission of high-quality images and documents to PACS with correct lead markers and patient data/history.
• Ensure equipment functions properly and report issues promptly to appropriate personnel.
• Maintain a clean, and orderly department including procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and related spaces.
• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.

Job description

UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham North Tower Imaging, we offer a range of imaging services, including X-ray, bone density (DEXA), CT, MRI, and ultrasound with a strong focus on specialized breast imaging. We are the only department at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham that performs invasive breast procedures. Our collaborative team works Monday through Friday with no evening or weekend shifts in an environment committed to high quality patient care.

What You Will Do

Provide mammography imaging services.

• Operate equipment and perform various mammography related procedures. Prepare and position patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
• Explain procedures and educates patients about the role of regular mammography in preventive breast health.
• Develop and evaluate the film for technical quality such as density contrast, definition, and distortion.
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines.
• Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
• Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department
• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable)
• One or more of the following required:
• Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date
• Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Minimum Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required
