Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Radiology Technologist for UAB St. Vincent’s St Clair location to perform radiologic procedures under radiologist supervision and deliver high-quality diagnostic images.

Prepare patients, administer contrast media within scope, and monitor safety and image quality. The role may involve DEXA scans and requires licensure/certification as listed and a completed Radiologic Technology program.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire or transfer date.
• Bone Density Certification within 6 months of hire or transfer date.
• Cardiographic Tech credentialed from CCI before hire/transfer date.
• ARRT Radiography credentialed before hire/transfer date.
• ARRT Sonography credentialed before hire/transfer date.
• ARDMS credentialed before hire/transfer date.
• Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

Responsibilities

• Perform radiological procedures under the direction of a radiologist to produce quality images for diagnosis.
• Prepare and position patients for imaging and select exposure factors accurately.
• Administer contrast media and medications within scope and regulations.
• Observe patient during procedures and report abnormal activity; update protocols as needed.
• Submit high-quality images and patient data to PACS with proper markers and history.
• Ensure equipment functions correctly and report malfunctions.
• Maintain a clean and orderly department, including rooms and storage areas.
• Position patients and select anatomic/technical parameters accurately.
• May perform DEXA bone density scans if applicable.

• Schedule: Monday-Thursday 7:30am-6:00pm

What You Will Do

To perform radiological procedures under the direction of a radiologist. Providing quality images to physicians to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems.

• Prepare and position patients for imaging and select exposure factors accurately.
• Prepare and administer contrast media and medications within the accepted scope of practice and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Observe patient during procedure and report abnormal activity. Monitor protocols and recommend updates or refinements as warranted.
• Follow radiation safety procedures and guidelines. Prevent patient from being exposed to unnecessary radiation.
• Ensure prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
• Ensure equipment is properly functioning. Report potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel. Lock/tag out equipment if appropriate.
• Assist in maintaining a clean, and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
• Position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately.
• May perform bone density scans using DEXA equipment, if applicable.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• Bone Density Certification may be required within 6-months of hire or transfer date (if applicable).
• One or more of the following required:
• Cardiographic Tech credentialed from the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in Radiography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Radiologic Technologist specializing in Sonography credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• Medical Sonographer credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education

• Graduate of an accredited educational program in Radiologic Technology required.
