Job summary

American Water is seeking a Technician, Water Quality & Environmental Compliance to join our New Jersey team. You will collect samples across assigned water systems and ensure regulatory compliance, while maintaining lab QA/QC and data records.

The role involves preparing reagents, analyzing results, and supporting continuous process improvements with strong attention to detail and teamwork.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required; Associate degree in science, business administration or related field preferred.
  • 0–2 years’ experience in operations, administrative and/or customer service preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and analyze plant, field and regulatory samples following approved methodology.
  • Analyze results, record data and identify process control/regulatory problems.
  • Prepare reagents/standards, maintain log sheets, clean glassware and maintain laboratory in clean and orderly condition.
  • Maintain QA/QC on lab equipment and adjust continuous process control monitors.

Position Information

$25hr - $27hr

The base salary range represents a good faith salary range for this position. This position is eligible for annual incentive pay and hasthe opportunity for continued salary growth. Primary Role

American Water is currently seeking a Technician, Water Quality & Environmental Compliance to join our NJ team. The Technician, Water Quality and Environmental Compliance is responsible for the collection of samples across assigned water and/or wastewater systems within State Operations.

Key Accountabilities
  • Collect and analyze plant, field and regulatory samples following approved methodology
  • Analyze results, record data and identify process control/regulatory problems
  • Prepare reagents/standards, maintain log sheets, clean glassware and maintain laboratory in clean and orderly condition
  • Maintain QA/QC on lab equipment and adjust continuous process control monitors
Knowledge/Skills
  • Knowledge of water or other utility operations preferred
  • Knowledge of specific systems such as SAP preferred
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite applications including MSWord, Excel, Access and PowerPoint and email management systems (MS Outlook)
  • Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills
  • Good business acumen and judgment
  • Good quantitative and analytical skills; attention to detail
  • Good verbal and written communication skills (e.g., report writing, listening, plan reading and creating, and presentation)
  • Strong interpersonal skills (e.g., tact/diplomacy, persuasion, team building, cooperation, leadership, ability to motivate others
Experience/Education
  • High School Diploma. Associate’s degree in science, business administration or management, or related degree preferred
  • 0 - 2 years’ experience in operations, administrative and/or customer service, preferred
Travel Requirements
  • Local and occasional regional travel, as needed (must have valid drivers license)
