Job summary

Ziegler CAT in Altoona, IA has an opening for a full-time Diesel Truck Technician to repair tractors and trailers in our shop, including engines, power trains, and chassis. Hours are Mon-Fri, 7:30-4:00.

Starting pay ranges from $27.00 to $45.00 per hour, with variation by skills and location; benefits include health insurance, PTO, holidays, 401(k), HSA, disability, parental leave, and more. The role requires a 2-year diesel tech degree or 2 years of related experience; CDL and inspection

Qualifications

• 2-year technical college degree in diesel technology or equivalent; or a high school diploma with 2 years of related shop experience.
• 2+ years of relevant truck and trailer repair experience preferred (engine, brakes, suspension, alignment).
• CDL and Federal inspection knowledge preferred.
• Ability to drive equipment and write clearly; communicate with supervisors and customers.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair complete tractor and trailer including engine, power train, and chassis.
• Document work orders in a complete and timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Work safely at all times, following company policies and standards.
• Collaborate with other technicians on troubleshooting repairs.
• Participate in ongoing training to enhance mechanical skills and product knowledge.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 to $45.00. Starting wage is dependent on skills, experience, education and location. Pay range may vary by 10% depending upon the applicant’s location.

• Diagnose and repair complete tractor and trailer including truck engine, power train, and chassis
• Document work orders in a complete and timely manner to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction
• Work safely at all times, following company policies, procedures and standards
• Work collaboratively and assist other technicians as needed regarding troubleshooting repairs
• Participate in ongoing training to enhance mechanical skills and grow product knowledge

Qualifications

• 2-year technical college degree in diesel technology or related field; or High school diploma/GED and 2 years of comparable shop mechanic experience
• 2+ years of relevant truck and trailer repair experience preferred (including engine, brakes, suspension, and alignment)
• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Federal inspection knowledge preferred
• Able to drive equipment
• Ability to write and communicate effectively and interact with supervisors, customers and team members
• Basic computer skills to document work orders and utilize online diagnostic systems
• Own mechanic tool set
• Ability to maintain a safe and clean work environment
• This role is deemed safety sensitive and requires the ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test

• Push/pull up to 50 lbs
• Lift/carry up to 60 lbs
• Lift bulky objects
• Standing, walking, using hands, talking, hearing, neck rotation, trunk rotation, stair climbing, ladder climbing, repetitive bending, kneeling, sustained squat, forward reaching, overhead reaching, supine overhead reaching, crawling, bin lift, high steps, fingering/grasping – able to use bolt box.
• Working Conditions may be indoor and/or outdoor. Noise level may be loud at times.
