Job summary

First Solar is seeking a Quality Inspector/Quality Representative to perform routine inspections and audits across production, ensuring adherence to First Solar specifications. You will train Production and Engineering staff and participate in cross-functional teams to implement corrective and preventive actions for continuous improvement.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, 5 years in a manufacturing environment with ISO 9001 experience; ASQ certifications are desirable.

Qualifications

  • 2 years of postsecondary studies or an associate certification; technical field preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree highly preferred.
  • ASQ Certification (CMI, CPT, CQA) desired.
  • 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 5 years’ experience with ISO 9001 quality systems.

Responsibilities

  • Complete day-to-day duties with minimal supervision.
  • Inspect incoming, in-process, and finished material; analyze data for trends.
  • Monitor and audit manufacturing processes and equipment against documentation.
  • Interface with departments, suppliers, customers and third parties.
  • Adhere to safety procedures and housekeeping standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Conduct routine Quality Inspections and Audits throughout production to assess and report on both product and process adherence to First Solar specifications and standards (incoming, in-process, and finished goods).
  • Provide guidance and training on those specifications and standards as the Quality Representative to Production and Engineering.

Education/Experience
  • High School or GED required.
  • 2 years Postsecondary studies, associate degree, or Professional Certification required (Technical Field preferred) or 7yrs related Quality Experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree highly preferred.
  • ASQ Certification (CMI, CPT, CQA) desired.
  • 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing Environment required.
  • 5 years’ experience within ISO 9001 (or equivalent) Quality System desired.

  • Experience using various precision tools (micrometers, gage blocks, calipers, microscopes).
  • Proven computer skills (Word and Excel required; JMP a plus).
Essential Responsibilities
  • Complete day-to-day duties and responsibilities under minimal supervision.
  • Inspect incoming, in-process, and finished material; analyze data for trends and discrepancies; and disseminate reports efficiently and effectively to facilitate timely decisions by Engineering, Production, and Quality.
  • Monitor and audit Manufacturing Processes and Equipment against Core Documentation (PFD, PFMEA, CP, WI) and report discrepancies.
  • Handle multiple tasks and employ appropriate prioritization to complete all requirements in a timely and professional manner.
  • Execute Quality Management Systems and Record Keeping per First Solar Policy and ISO Standards.
  • Interface with other departments, suppliers, customers, and third-party representatives as required.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.

Reporting Relationships
  • This position reports to the Plant Quality Engineer.
  • This position will not have direct reports.
Travel
  • 0% - 5% (On occasion/as needed for training, etc.)
Estimated Salary Range
  • $23.37 - $32.69
US Physical Requirements
  • Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Will climb stairs or steps on a frequent basis.
  • Will lift up to 58 pounds on an occasional basis, according to work instruction.
  • Will lift up to 37 pounds on a frequent basis.
  • Will push or pull up to 50 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
  • Will push or pull up to 37 pounds of force on a frequent basis.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • 20/40 vision in each eye separately and both eyes (with or without correction), the ability to distinguish between red, yellow, and green and peripheral vision >70 degrees is required.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including, but not limited to: steel-toed shoes, cut-resistant gloves, jackets & aprons &/or arm guards, safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection & respirators) as a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair).
