Job summary

Berry Material Handling - Topeka is seeking an experienced forklift technician/mechanic with strong hydraulic and electrical troubleshooting experience. This is a field service role servicing Holton and Topeka, KS. In-house, paid training is provided.

Monday–Friday 8:00–5:00, no weekends; hourly paid position. The role involves repairing machine components, pre-ordering parts, maintaining safety and records, and communicating professionally with customers.

Qualifications

• Experience with forklift repair and hydraulic/electrical troubleshooting.
• Valid driver’s license with clean MVR.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Team player who cooperates with parts personnel and other service technicians.

Responsibilities

• Repair machine components in the shop and on-site, ensuring high quality.
• Recondition and repair equipment and components.
• Plan methods and sequence of repairs; pre-order parts and materials.
• Perform repairs safely and according to guidelines; maintain records of time and materials.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and professional appearance.
• Communicate with customers and co-workers with respect and integrity.
• Report daily field records and keep accurate documentation.

This is a Field Service Mechanic position. We are seeking technicians in the Holton and Topeka, KS areas. This is not a shop position.

Hourly Paid Position - No More Flat Rate!

Responsibilities

• Responsible for the effective repair of machine components in the shop, at high levels of quality
• Recondition and repair equipment and components
• Plan methods and sequence of performing repairs assigned
• Pre-order all parts and materials required to perform assigned repairs
• Effect the repairs in a safe and effective manner
• Ensure all repairs complete as assigned and the cosmetic appearance are up to standards
• Maintain the work area in a clean and safe condition
• Maintain good working records for time, parts, supplies, and outside purchases in repairs
• Ensure all records are legible and in compliance with established methods
• Report all record keeping daily from the field, even when not returning daily to the company
• Maintain shop tools, equipment and vehicles
• Maintain personal appearance in a professional and neat condition. Wear all personal protective equipment, as required; and urges others to do so.
• All communications with customers and co-workers are conducted in a manner reflecting respect and integrity
• Perform inspections required to determine cause of failure is done following established guidelines and are completed with the cause identified

Qualifications

• Strong potential to develop good mechanical skills, good communication skills, and safe work habits
• Electric forklift experience a plus
• Be able to work independent of direct supervision
• Contribution to spirit of teamwork and cooperation through the branch location, specifically with parts personnel and other service technicians
• Spanish speaking valued
• A technical school or equivalent experience in mechanical repairs is preferred, but not required
• Valid driver's license; clean MVR

Physical Requirements

• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate construction equipment.
• Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 50-100 pounds and/or frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 20-50 pounds and/or continuous lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 10-20 pounds
• Regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, grasp or pull and lift objects. Occasionally required to sit, climb, and balance, kneel, stoop, couch, and crawl
• Consistently exposed to outside weather conditions, fumes, and loud noise.
