Job summary

IES is seeking a Technician II - Structured Cabling in the Rayville, LA area to lead a crew of installers, install outlets, patch panels, and ensure all cabling work meets company safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and supervise others.
• Must be proficient with the listed tools.
• Must have proven skill to interpret blueprints and project documents.
• Must know universal color codes in communications.
• Must meet Company driving standards.

Responsibilities

• Install a work area outlet for floor or wall, terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks, mount face plates and surface mount boxes.
• Build closets with backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber and hardware; install grounding for racks and equipment.
• Perform testing: continuity test, volt-ohmmeter usage, troubleshoot opens/shorts on cables.
• Identify active voice or data circuits.
• Lead crew, train personnel, coordinate timelines to complete projects.
• Accurately complete IES Communications paperwork (timesheets, transfers, work orders, etc).
• Adhere to safety and quality standards, participate in all required company/customer/industry standards.
• Perform other assigned responsibilities.

Job description

Job Summary:

TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling must be able to perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Technician II - Structured Cabling will coordinate small groups of installers in the performance of daily workload including adherence to Companysafety and quality standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• The Technician II - Structured Cabling will install a work area outlet for floor or wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks. Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly. Adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards)
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling will build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cablingperformstesting: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use of volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable.
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cablingwill identify active voice or data circuits.
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cablingwill assume responsibility for effective performance of crew and provide necessary training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project.
• The Technician II - Structured Cablingwillfully complete all IES Communications paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cablingwill adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling will complete other responsibilities as assigned.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

• TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop, and implement project process improvement(s).
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling mustpromote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners.
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling mustbe able to act as the Company liaison for interface with customer representative(s).
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling mustpossess proven problem-solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read and write.
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling mustbe able to work at heights, on a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to endure long periods of standing, walking, or working in inclement weather and possession of sufficient physical strength and agility to lift and move heavy objects.
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling mustbe able to see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
• TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling mustbe able to travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
• Regular attendance is mandatory.
• Must have adequate transportation to get to the jobsite.

Tools:

• Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight and gloves.
• Trade Tools: Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool.

Education, Certification, License, and Skill Requirements:

• Mustpossess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency.
• Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and demonstrate the ability to supervise others.
• Must possess andbe proficient with the listed tools.
• Must have proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to, specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
• Must know the universal communications color codes.
• Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
