Job summary

IES is seeking a Technician II - Structured Cabling to lead a small crew of installers and coordinate daily workloads. The role involves wiring work areas, terminating CAT3 and CAT5 jacks, and mounting face plates to standard specifications.

You will also train staff and ensure timely completion of paperwork and safety compliance. The ideal candidate has 2+ years in telecommunications or a related field, understands blueprints, color codes, and IDC connections, and can travel within the region

Qualifications

  • Must have a High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field with supervisory ability.
  • Proficiency with listed tools and ability to interpret blueprints and project docs.
  • Must know universal color codes for communications.
  • Must meet company driving standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead small installer groups to complete daily workload.
  • Install outlets, terminate CAT3/5, mount face plates and boxes per labeling standards.
  • Build closets, mount backboards, racks, patch panels, fiber optics, and grounding as required.
  • Complete IDC connections and test continuity on cables.
  • Identify active voice or data circuits and troubleshoot issues.
  • Complete paperwork accurately (timesheets, work orders, etc.).
  • Adhere to safety, quality standards and industry regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Technician II - Structured Cabling must be able to perform the technical responsibilities of a Cable Installer and function as a lead member of a technical team. The Technician II - Structured Cabling will coordinate small groups of installers in the performance of daily workload including adherence to Company safety and quality standards.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling will install a work area outlet for floor or wall (terminate CAT 3 & CAT 5 jacks. Mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly. Adhere to IESCOMMERCIAL labeling standards).
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling will build closets (Mount and install backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic and hardware). Install grounding for racks, equipment and cable as required. Complete all IDC connections (e.g. terminate 110/66 blocks and patch panels).
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cablingperformstesting: continuity test horizontal and riser cable; use of volt-ohmmeter; troubleshoot opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable.
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cablingwill identify active voice or data circuits.
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cablingwill assume responsibility for effective performance of crew and provide necessary training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project.
  • The Technician II - Structured Cabling will complete all IES Communications paperwork accurately and on time (timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers and others as required).
  • The Technician II - Structured Cabling will adhere to and participate in all Company, customer and industry quality and safety standards and regulations.
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling will complete other responsibilities as assigned.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling must be self-motivated, positive in approach, professional and help create, develop, and implement project process improvement(s).
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling must promote the Company culture and mission to all employees, vendors, clients, and business partners.
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling must act as the Company liaison for interface with customer representative(s).
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling must possess proven problem‑solving skills, critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively read and write.
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling must work at heights, on a ladder and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to endure long periods of standing, walking, or working in inclement weather and possession of sufficient physical strength and agility to lift and move heavy objects.
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling must see and distinguish different colors, read small print and hear and recognize audible signals such as dial tones.
  • TheTechnician II - Structured Cabling must travel within the branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.
  • Regular attendance is mandatory.
  • Must have adequate transportation to get to the jobsite.
Tools
  • Screwdriver (regular and Phillips), drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips (with belt sheath), pliers (needle nose and channel locks), hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight and gloves.
  • Trade Tools: Punch tool with 110 block and 66 block blade, 6/8 position combo crimp tool.

Qualifications
  • Must possess at least a High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Must possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and demonstrate the ability to supervise others.
  • Must possess and be proficient with the listed tools.
  • Must have proven skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including but not limited to specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
  • Must know the universal communications color codes.
  • Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
