Job summary

Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (AQN), parent company of Liberty, is seeking a Construction & Maintenance Technician I to perform the full range of transmission system activities.

Responsibilities include leak repair, valve inspection, and supporting multiple departments while maintaining a safe work environment. Qualifications include a High School Diploma or GED, Class A CDL, Operator (OQs) training, and a Competent Person Certificate.

Qualifications

  • High school Diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency in basic computer knowledge.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Relevant gas experience.
  • Must have and maintain minimum Operator (OQs) and classroom training for the position.
  • Must have and maintain a Competent Person Certificate.
  • Requires active Class A CDL.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the full range of construction and maintenance activities on transmission systems and facilities.
  • Leak investigation and repair.
  • May perform duties of crew lead, if needed.
  • Construction order completion and site readiness.
  • Operate excavating equipment as required.
  • Perform valve inspections.
  • Work standby, shifts, holidays, weekends, and emergency call outs.
  • Support other departments as needed.

Purpose

Responsible for performing the full range of construction and maintenance activities on transmission systems and facilities. Perform such work as required by the company, regulator, safety procedures.

Accountabilities
  • All C&M Technician I responsibilities
  • Leak investigation and repair
  • May perform duties of crew lead, if needed
  • Construction order complete
  • Proficient at operating excavating equipment
  • Perform critical valve inspection
  • Perform stand‑by, work shifts, holidays, weekends, emergency call out
  • Support other departments when needed
  • Service and construction helper
  • Must become familiar with the safety manual and work according to its intent while creating and maintaining a safe working environment
  • Responsible for the safe operation inspection of assigned company vehicles and equipment
  • Demonstrate support for and adhere to the company's values, strategies, policies, and procedures and exhibits the core values of Liberty's mission statement, customer service, safety, and the company's code of conduct as an individual contributor and team member
  • Performs other job‑related duties as required
Education and Experience
  • High school Diploma or GED
  • Proficiency in basic computer knowledge
  • Demonstrate good written and verbal communication skills
  • Relevant gas experience
  • Must have and maintain minimum Operator (OQs) and classroom training for the position
  • Must have and maintain a Competent Person Certificate
  • Requires active Class A CDL
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Must be physically able to stoop, bend, crawl, walk, climb ladders, and do heavy lifting as needed. Able to lift and carry materials up to 50lbs. Ability to occasionally ascend and descend stairs and ladders is required. Must also have keen senses of smell, hearing, vision, and color identification. Ability to work in all terrain and weather conditions as needed required.
