Job summary

Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (AQN), parent company of Liberty, seeks an engineer to support Liberty Utilities water operations, including capital project cost management and fixed asset documentation.

The role may involve assisting with water system master planning and various construction projects. Ideal candidates have 3–5 years of technical experience in a water utility, an Associate degree, and strong Excel skills; familiarity with SAP EAM, DDS, and GIS is a plus.

Purpose

Under moderate supervision, this position is responsible for providing engineering support in the Liberty Utilities water operations, including administrating capital project costs and fixed asset/GIS documentation and maintaining other capital project documentation. This support may include aiding in water system master planning and administration of various construction projects.

  • Intermediate experience in Excel is required.
Accountabilities
  • Assists in project cost administration and fixed asset allocations, maintaining project documentation and operations and maintenance records.
  • Assists in the construction of projects by ordering materials and services and maintains records for capital project files.
  • Assists in the preparation of letters, memoranda, reports, project specifications, and other written communication.
  • Assists with the preparation and tracking of capital budgets.
  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of facility system maps and facility management systems.
  • Updates Fixed Asset and GIS databases and utilizes those systems to provide data and analyses for others.
  • Assists in the timely collection and processing of as‑built documentation for construction projects.
  • Executes work with new technology requiring technical knowledge of SAP EAM, DDS and GIS.
Education and Experience
  • Three to five years of technical experience in a water utility or other related field is required.
  • An Associate's degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with construction administration for an investor‑owned utility is preferred.
  • General knowledge of accounting, project management and construction management practices is preferred.
  • Knowledge and use of personal computers and moderate skills in word processing and spreadsheet software are mandatory.
  • Experience in Microsoft Office products is required.
  • Experience and skills with Geographic Information System (GIS) software is preferred.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to communicate in English with others including internal and external customers under normal and adverse conditions are required.
  • Possess effective interpersonal skills and be able to work with people at all levels of the organization.
  • Maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with those contacted during work, including supervisors, coworkers, customers, regulators, and the public.
  • Meet established goals and deadlines with moderate supervision.
  • Be able to exercise independent judgment, discretion, professionalism, and tact in all areas of work including matters of a sensitive and/or confidential nature.
  • Have good organizational, problem‑solving, and math skills.
  • Able to work independently and function in a team environment.
  • Have ability to take direction, be a self‑starter, and self‑motivated.
  • Prioritize and organize multiple assignments with limited time constraints and changing requirements.
  • Be able to work weekends, holidays, and extra time as required.
  • Must possess a driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Be able to travel for business.
