Position Summary
- You do not have to have previous instrument repair experience to be considered.
- This is an entry level job - we will train you!
- Perform surgical instrument inspection, repair, and refurbishment in a field-based setting, working out of mobile repair trucks at Customer sites and regional labs.
- Deliver superior Customer Experience by providing timely and quality repairs to meet compliance standards.
- This position may require occasional overnight travel.
- Requires daily travel by driving a company vehicle. STERIS will run a 7-year driving record check as part of onboarding.
This is a remote-based Customer facing position. Candidates must be based near Louisville, KY.
What You'll Do As a Repair Technician I
- Perform basic to intermediate repairs of surgical instruments, including ultrasonic function, metallurgy, buff and polish, bending, shaping, sharpening, hinge points, serrations, and brazing.
- Demonstrate quality in work including advanced Dremel operation, Re-cup and Re-jaw, laparoscopic inspection.
- Provide invoicing and documentation as needed.
- Work primarily inside a mobile repair truck, with frequent trips inside hospitals.
- Support various locations within the assigned territory based on service agreements and Customer needs.
- Follow all safety, health policies, and procedures, using PPE as required, and complete safety observations.
- Adhere to protocols (DOT, company, Customer) for safe operation of mobile labs, including policies and procedures.
Required Experience, Skills, and Abilities
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of work experience, including at least 1 year of relevant experience, or 1 year at STERIS; all experience must be verifiable.
- Related certifications or military experience may be considered.
- Relevant experience includes repair, assembly, product testing, small engine repair, electronics, carpentry, circuit board repair, industrial sewing, jewelry repair, maintenance, construction, or automotive repair.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push instrument carts up to 150 pounds.
- Flexible schedule, including early/late hours, nights, and weekends, based on needs.
- Minimum age of 21, with ability to meet FMCSA and driver license requirements.
- Pass a DOT medical/physical exam, comply with DOT regulations, and conduct safety checks.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and required vaccines.

Pay range: $15.02 - $21.07, with bonus eligibility. Pay rates depend on various factors including experience, education, certifications, and location.
