Job summary

Boulder Valley School District is seeking a Technician-HVAC to maintain, repair and replace heating, ventilation and air cooling equipment across its facilities in Boulder and surrounding communities. The role requires EPA certification, a valid driver's license, and hands-on HVAC experience.

You will work closely with the Maintenance team to ensure reliable climate control and safety compliance. The position is full-time, 40 hours weekly, with a 261-day schedule.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years HVAC experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year vocational HVAC education, apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Communicates in English.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work while standing for long periods.
  • Asbestos training within 90 days and lift certification within 6 months.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, repairs and replaces HVAC equipment including kitchen ventilation and refrigeration.
  • Perform rounds to inspect fans, motors, dampers, vents and control systems; troubleshoot.
  • Coordinate issues with HVAC Supervisor and lead technicians; document work orders.
  • Assist in purchasing equipment and working with outside contractors.
  • Communicate problem resolutions with schools and district staff; enter time and notes accurately.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and assess safety issues; provide district recommendations.
  • Respond as essential personnel during emergencies or closures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Pay Range * $35.46 - $44.28

*The pay range above is for employees newly hired to BVSD or current BVSD employees that are new to the employee group (existing employees currently in this unit please refer to the pay range on the appropriate salary schedule.)

Summary

Maintain, repair and replace heating, ventilating and air cooling equipment, including kitchen ventilation and refrigeration equipment.

Responsibilities
  • Maintains, repairs and replaces heating, ventilating and air cooling equipment, including kitchen ventilation and refrigeration equipment.
  • Makes continuous rounds of inspection to check fans, motors, dampers, vents and other parts; digital control systems components, and trouble-shoots HVAC systems on computerized digital control systems.
  • Trouble-shoots direct digital control systems including sensors, controllers, control programs and communication systems; coordinates issues and resolutions with HVAC Supervisor and HVAC Lead Technicians and performs any related work as required.
  • Assesses equipment needs, communicates, and assists HVAC Supervisor in the purchase of required equipment.
  • Works with outside contractors and vendors.
  • Carries out oral and written directions. Accurately documents work performed on work orders defining problem and solution. Enters time worked and work order documentation accurately on district time keeping and work order system platforms.
  • Communicates and coordinates problem resolution with schools, district staff and outside contractors.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance and inspects HVAC systems and equipment, including kitchen ventilation and refrigeration equipment for maintenance and safety issues; makes repairs as required or provides recommendations to the District for correction.
  • Respond as essential personnel in case of an emergency, weather or environmental event, and/or school/facility/district closure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three years HVAC experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year vocational HVAC education, apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Communicates (reads, writes, and speaks) in English.
  • Completed and submitted BVSD online application.
  • Constantly reaching, bending, stooping, ability to climb ladders, and be on your feet 8 hours/day.
  • Lifting 60-80 lbs. on a frequent basis and up to 100 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Asbestos training within 90 days.
  • Obtain lift certification within 6 months.

Preferred:

  • Associates degree in HVAC.
  • Formal training in electrical troubleshooting and repair.
  • Effectively communicate and correspond via email, text messages or calls.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydronic and refrigeration systems along with being proficient with basic hand tools, power tools and electrical test meter.

Salary Placement varies according to experience and education.
