Job summary

Poudre School District is seeking an HVAC technician-in-training to assist with repair, maintenance, and installation of district heating and cooling systems. Under supervision, you will gain work experience while contributing to a safe, comfortable environment for teachers, students, staff, and community members.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, willingness to learn, and valid Colorado driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent vocational training.
  • General maintenance and/or repair of facilities experience is preferred.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Must meet district driver insurability requirements.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with inspection, repair, maintenance, preventative maintenance and installation of HVAC equipment and components.
  • Assist with cleaning, repair or replacement of belts, filters, coils, bearings, motors, shafts, volutes, and oil bearings.
  • Monitor equipment through direct digital control (DDS).
  • Read or interpret building and mechanical drawings.
  • Maintain records of HVAC work in the district’s work order system and keep inventory/location maps.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and calibrating electric, electronic, and pneumatic controls.
  • Attend work and arrive promptly.
  • Perform coil cleaning in compliance with regulations.
  • Identify ideas for HVAC retro-fits for space-use changes.
  • Respond to emergency repair calls 24 hours a day as needed.
  • Respond as essential personnel in emergencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Pay Range: $25.15-$28.17 per hour based on qualifications and experience.
  • Hours per Day: 8
  • Work Calendar Days per Year: 260
  • Duration of Position: Ongoing

Summary

Under direct supervision of a Journeyman or Master HVAC Technician, the technician will receive the required work experience and training to assist in the repair, replacement and maintenance of district heating, ventilation and air‑conditioning equipment. The technician will help ensure a safe and comfortable environment for teachers, students, staff, and community members.

Job Tasks
  • Assist with inspection, repair, maintenance, preventative maintenance and installation of air compressors, HVAC equipment (including swamp coolers, chillers, air handling units, steam boilers, cabinet heaters, cooling towers, and piping).
  • Assist with cleaning, repair or replacement of belts, filters, coils, bearings, motors, shafts, volutes, and oil bearings.
  • Assist with monitoring equipment through the direct digital system (DDS).
  • Read or interpret building and mechanical drawings.
  • Maintain accurate records of HVAC work in the district’s automated work order management system, including service calls and preventative maintenance, and keep inventory spreadsheets and equipment location maps.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and calibrating electric, electronic, and pneumatic controls.
  • Attend work and arrive promptly.
  • Perform general coil cleaning in compliance with state, city and storm‑water regulations.
  • Identify and suggest ideas for possible HVAC retro‑fits for space‑use changes.
  • Respond to emergency repair calls 24 hours a day as needed.
  • Respond as essential personnel in case of an emergency, weather or environmental event, and/or school/facility/district closure.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Licenses Required
  • High school diploma, completion of a GED, or equivalent vocational schooling or short‑term courses in HVAC equipment repair and maintenance.
  • General maintenance and/or repair of facilities experience is preferred.
  • Criminal background check required for hire.
  • Must meet district driver insurability requirements.
  • Valid Colorado driver’s license.
