Job summary

Central Power Systems & Services is seeking a Diesel Service Technician to provide in-shop technical assistance on heavy-duty trucks, engines and transmissions as directed by the Service Foreman.

The role includes performing repairs, using OEM diagnostic software, and completing timekeeping and paperwork while adhering to safety and quality standards to support customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Requires HS diploma or GED; tech certificate preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of manual fabrication experience per blueprints.
  • Strong diagnostic and mechanical abilities.
  • Good verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

  • Perform service and maintenance on heavy-duty trucks.
  • Use OEM diagnostic software to perform repairs per specs.
  • Repair engine, transmission, air brake, and chassis components.
  • Perform in-frame overhauls and transmission rebuilds.
  • Operate dynos for diagnostics and verify repairs.
  • Complete timekeeping and all paperwork.
  • Adhere to safety and quality standards.

Position Title: Diesel Service Technician


Reporting to: Service Manager


Department: Service

We live that statement every single day. We are looking for a Diesel Service Technician to help support that mission.


JOB SUMMARY

The Diesel Service Technician is responsible for the In-Shop floor technical assistance for mechanics, repairs and service/maintenance as directed by the Service Foreman.


RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Perform service and maintenance on all makes and models of heavy-duty trucks

  • Use of OEM diagnostic software to perform repairs in line with dealer and manufacturer specifications

  • Perform heavy-duty engine swings, transmission replacements, air brake services and chassis repairs

  • In-depth repair of engine and transmission-related components (Training provided!)

  • In-frame overhaul of heavy-duty engines to include gear train inspection, cylinder head replacement, piston and connecting rod replacement and main bearing replacement to factory specifications

  • Rebuilding of Allison transmissions in dedicated overhaul area

  • Operation of state-of-the-art engine, transmission and chassis dynos to aid in diagnostics and ensure correct operation following repairs

  • Clock on to work orders

  • Repair various components of on-highway vehicles

  • Position and align components for assembly, manually or using hoists.

  • Troubleshoot and Diagnose

  • Inspect, operate and test completed products to verify functioning, machine capabilities and conformance to customer specifications

  • Performs repairs as directed by the Service Foreman

  • Complete all timekeeping requirements to track labor in jobs

  • Complete all paperwork necessary to perform repairs as directed

  • Other responsibilities as designated by and at the discretion of management

Qualifications


  • High School Diploma or GED required. A technicalschool certificate in related field such as Automotive/Diesel Technology, or Welding/Fabrication preferred

  • A minimum of two (2) years of related experience in manual fabrication from blueprint specifications. Must have experience using both standard and metric measures

  • A good working knowledge of equipment operations and mechanical functions

  • Strong diagnostic skills

  • Ability to consistently repair components and equipment in line with dealer and manufacturers, flat-rate time standards

  • Strong mechanical skills

  • Good verbal and written communications skills

  • Commitment to maintaining an orderly and safe working environment


WORK CONDITIONS

Physical Demands/Work Environment:


This position regularly requires walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing stairs. It also often requires pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting 50+ lbs. and working in a variety of weather conditions and noise levels.
