Qualifications

• HVAC/R certification and 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls.
• 4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls or related field.
• Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal EPA certification for refrigerant handling.
• HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman where required.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass MVR.
• Commercial driving record with no major convictions in last 5 years; acceptable minor violations.

The (USA) Technician, Facility Services, HVAC-Refrigeration, is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems in commercial and industrial settings. This role involves interpreting technical schematics, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The Technician performs preventive maintenance, manages refrigerant handling, and supports operational efficiency through effective communication and teamwork. This position requires adherence to company policies and standards while contributing to continuous improvement and supporting business-critical needs, including participation in on-call rotations and coordination of service activities across multiple locations.

About the team

The Facility Services team ensures the efficient operation and maintenance of HVAC and refrigeration systems across Walmart locations. They install, inspect, and repair equipment while adhering to safety and regulatory standards. The team implements preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. Collaborating with management and partners, they coordinate service calls and support critical business needs. Using specialized tools and following established protocols, team members maintain system performance to foster a safe and productive environment that supports Walmart’s operational goals and enhances overall customer satisfaction.

What you'll do

What you’ll bring

• Proven experience installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC and refrigeration systems in commercial or industrial settings.
• Strong ability to interpret layout plans, schematics, and building codes to ensure accurate system configuration.
• Skilled in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues and implementing preventive maintenance programs.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards and EPA 608 refrigerant handling protocols, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Ability to lead and mentor field teams, providing technical guidance and promoting safety practices.
• Effective communication skills to explain technical issues and coordinate with customers and service providers.
• Competence in using digital tools for scheduling, inventory tracking, and reporting.
• Valid driver’s license and capability to operate

The hourly wage range for this position is $29.00 - $58.00* *The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances. Premiums may be based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.

Minimum Qualifications

• Option 1: Vocational or technical HVAC/R certification and 2 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls.
• Option 2: 4 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance or construction-related field for commercial HVAC/R and building controls or related field.
• Hold and maintains Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
• Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
• Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass motor vehicle report.
• Commercial driving record with no convictions for DUI, DWI, OUI within the last five (5) years. Commercial driving record with no more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years. No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years. No serious traffic violations, as defined by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.

• Completion of a 2-year Vocational or Technical HVAC/R program
• Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (for example, Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

• Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
• Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
