Job description

Technician - Fabrication & Heavy Equipment Operations

Traysar Inc. - U.S. Operations | Austin, Texas Area

About Traysar

Traysar was founded in 2025 by second-time technology founders, recipients of the Israel Defense Prize, and engineers from elite military units, The Boring Company, and SpaceX. Backed by Lux Capital and the founders of Anduril, the leading autonomous defense company, Traysar is reclaiming Western deterrence by developing and deploying technologies for the fifth domain of warfare: the underground.

Job Summary

Traysar is seeking a highly motivated and experienced multi-skilled technician to join our U.S. operations team. This is a hands-on role for someone who can weld a fixture, machine a part, troubleshoot mechanical equipment, support prototype builds, and then operate a telehandler or excavator to complete the mission.

The machines you help build, maintain, and operate will be used to support the development of advanced subterranean systems for defense applications. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in a fast-moving hardware environment where designs evolve quickly, documentation may be limited, and the team builds and tests equipment in both shop and field conditions. This role is based on the technician requirements provided in the uploaded job description.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform structural welding and fabrication using FCAW (flux-core), GMAW (MIG), and GTAW (TIG) on steel and other common alloys.
  • Machine simple to moderately complex components using manual mills and lathes, including machine setup, fixturing, and producing accurate parts from drawings, sketches, or verbal direction.
  • Operate heavy equipment, including forklifts, telehandlers, excavators, and other machinery required for prototype testing and field operations.
  • Perform hands-on mechanical work, including equipment assembly and disassembly, maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, and component replacement.
  • Support prototype builds, machine modifications, equipment staging, field testing, and test-site preparation.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, fabrication sketches, work instructions, and basic technical documentation.
  • Inspect completed work to verify dimensions, fit, weld quality, functionality, and readiness for testing.
  • Identify mechanical or fabrication issues during builds and work directly with engineers to develop practical solutions.
  • Maintain shop tools, fabrication equipment, vehicles, and heavy machinery in safe operating condition.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment in both shop and outdoor field settings.
  • Learn new equipment, fabrication processes, and operating procedures quickly as Traysar’s systems continue to evolve.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • Proven hands-on experience with FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to machine parts using manual mills and lathes.
  • Experience operating forklifts, telehandlers, excavators, or comparable heavy equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience maintaining, troubleshooting, assembling, and repairing machinery.
  • Ability to work from mechanical drawings, sketches, verbal instructions, and limited documentation.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and execute with minimal supervision.
  • Strong commitment to safety, quality, reliability, and maintaining an organized workspace.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience working with hydraulic systems, including hoses, fittings, cylinders, pumps, valves, and hydraulic troubleshooting.
  • Experience with horizontal directional drilling equipment or drilling operations.
  • Background in defense, oil and gas, construction, tunneling, mining, heavy equipment, agriculture, or another industrial environment.
  • Experience supporting prototype development, research and development testing, or low-volume machine builds.
  • Familiarity with field modifications, machine commissioning, and troubleshooting equipment under operating loads.
  • Ability to fabricate and machine components while working from incomplete or evolving designs.
  • Relevant welding, machining, forklift, telehandler, excavator, or heavy-equipment certifications.
  • Experience working directly with engineers to translate designs into functional hardware.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and regularly bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, climb, and work around heavy machinery.
  • Ability to work in both indoor shop environments and outdoor field conditions.
  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or flexible shifts when required to support prototype builds and field tests.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to report to Traysar’s facilities and test locations in the Bastrop, Texas area.
  • Willingness to follow all company safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.

This position is intended for someone who is genuinely multi-skilled - the person who can weld a fixture, machine a replacement part, turn wrenches to keep equipment operating, and then jump onto an excavator or telehandler to get the job done.

If there is a fit, we will schedule an initial interview followed by a technical and practical interview focused on your previous work, fabrication abilities, mechanical experience, and heavy-equipment background. Candidates who pass these interviews will proceed to a final on-site interview and practical skills assessment.
