Position Summary

You do not need prior instrument repair experience to be considered. This is an entry-level job - we will train you!

  • Perform surgical instrument inspection, repair, and refurbishment in a field-based setting, working out of mobile repair trucks at Customer sites and regional labs.
  • Deliver superior Customer Experience by providing timely and quality repairs that meet compliance standards.
  • Undergo a 7-year driving record check as part of onboarding if offered this position.
  • Must be able to travel up to 20% (overnight travel).

This is a remote, customer-facing position. Applicants must be based in NY to support and service customers in this territory.

What You Will Do As A Repair Technician
  • Perform basic to intermediate repairs of surgical instruments, including ultrasonic function, metallurgy, buffing, polishing, bending, shaping, sharpening, hinge points, serrations, and brazing.
  • Demonstrate quality performance in advanced tasks such as Dremel operation, recutting and re-jaw, laparoscopic inspection.
  • Provide invoicing and documentation as needed.
  • Work mainly inside a mobile repair truck, with frequent trips inside hospitals.
  • Support various locations within the territory depending on service agreements and customer needs.
  • Follow all safety, health policies, and procedures, using PPE and completing safety observations.
  • Comply with protocols for safe operation of mobile labs, including policies related to the position.
Experience, Skills, and Abilities Needed
  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least 2 years of work experience, including a minimum of 1 year relevant experience, or 1 year at STERIS, all verifiable
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and push instrument carts ranging from 10-150 pounds
  • Flexible schedule including early/late hours, nights, and weekends as needed
  • Minimum age 21, with ability to meet FMCSA and driver’s license requirements
  • Pass a DOT medical/physical exam and adhere to DOT regulations
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; maintain required vaccines

*Relevant certifications or military experience in technical or mechanical fields may count towards experience.

Relevant Work Experience

Experience in hands-on repair, assembly, product testing, or use of small tools is a plus. Relevant fields include small engine repair, electronics, carpentry, circuit boards, sterile processing, automotive repair, etc.

Pay range: $18.99 - $26.50, with potential bonuses or commissions. Pay is based on experience, education, certifications, and other factors.
