Job summary

VCA Shoreline Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Shelton, CT seeks a full-time Technician Assistant who is positive, energetic, and eager to learn. You will support doctors and technicians, restrain animals, help with lab work, and ensure patient comfort in a fast-paced clinic.

The role offers a Wednesday–Saturday 8am–6pm schedule with compensation of $19.00–$20.00 per hour, based on skill and experience, plus a comprehensive benefits package and hospital discounts.

Responsibilities

• Restrain animals for doctor and technician.
• Administer medications under the supervision of the technician.
• Assist with obtaining lab samples.
• Run labs on in-house machines and learn troubleshooting.
• Clean kennels and replace bedding for hospitalized patients.
• Offer food and water to hospitalized patients under supervision.
• Walk hospitalized patients under supervision.
• Assist with sedated or anesthetized procedures (setup, cleanup, moving patients).
• General cleaning duties inside and outside the hospital, restocking supplies, maintaining equipment.

Potential Schedule

Full time, Wednesday-Saturday 8am-6pm

Compensation

$19.00 - $20.00 / hr based on skill set and experience.

Technician Assistant duties include

• Restraining animals for doctor and technician
• Administering medications under the supervision of the technician
• Assisting with obtaining lab samples
• Running labs on our in-house machines (including learning how to troubleshoot machines)
• Cleaning kennels and replacing bedding for hospitalized patients
• Offering food and water to hospitalized patients under the supervision of the technician
• Walking hospitalized patients under the supervision of the technician
• Assisting with sedated or anesthetized procedures as needed (set up and break down, cleaning, moving patients in and out of O/R, etc.)
• General cleaning duties inside and outside the hospital, including laundry, sweeping/mopping, restocking medical supplies, maintaining medical equipment
• Other duties as assigned

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and be able to effectively communicate with others in a fast-paced environment.
