Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Technician 1 – Histology for our 2nd Shift Pathology Services Team in Mattawan MI.

A Technician 1 – Histology is in training to perform and become proficient in onboarding skills, procedures, and cooperating in a team environment. The technician is learning basic skills required to conduct a study, which may include handling tissues and organs, trimming tissues, embedding, measuring organ weights; microtomy, slide preparation, staining; inventory and quality control, and shipping of tissues. The technician is working under close supervision to gain proficiency.

The pay for this position is $20/hr USD. Salaries may vary based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Ensure good welfare and humane care for all animals through gentle, positive human-animal interactions.
  • Train in onboarding skills including tissue handling, trimming, embedding, measuring, microtomy, slide prep, staining, inventory, quality control, and shipping, based on training plan and business needs.
  • Collect, document, review, and verify data on forms or electronic systems.
  • Review documentation for quality control.
  • Use and maintain instrumentation and equipment.
  • Learn and know anatomic terms.
  • Receive, track, and prepare samples or materials as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. required; Bachelor’s in biological sciences preferred.
  • No prior experience required; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Proficiency with computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to maintain a safe working environment and follow safety procedures.
  • Ability to adhere to GLP, SOP, BOP, and IACUC regulations.
  • Willingness to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, or on short notice.
  • Ability to work under time constraints.
