Job summary

Groome Industrial Service Group is seeking a Technician to join our Florida office. The role focuses on surface preparation, coating application, and safety compliance within industrial environments.

You will perform blasting, cleaning, and painting tasks, while ensuring SSPC standards and quality checks are met. Candidates need at least 2 years in the industrial sector with blasting/painting experience, OSHA knowledge, and willingness to travel up to 80%.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years' experience in the industrial sector with blasting and painting
• Knowledge of current OSHA and related safety requirements
• Ability to work extended hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed
• Willing to travel up to 80% of the year
• Basic to intermediate communication skills in English (read, write, speak)

Responsibilities

• Perform surface preparation, including containment setup/removal, equipment and materials handling, and cleaning surfaces by pressure washing, sandblasting, UHP water-jetting, and hand/power tools
• Inspect surfaces and ensure proper cleanliness and profile according to SSPC standards
• Apply coatings (spray, brush, roll) including primers and finish coats with correct thickness and adhesion
• Follow safety and environmental procedures, PPE use, hazard recognition, and waste disposal
• Inspect work areas and operate tools and machinery safely; maintain and troubleshoot equipment to minimize downtime
• Conduct quality control checks, track time and job-related documentation
• Collaborate with team members and communicate safety concerns or issues to leadership
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and participate in ongoing training

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform surface preparation, including setting up/removing containment, equipment, and materials, and cleaning surfaces using pressure washing, sandblasting, UHP water-jetting, and hand/power tools
• Inspect surfaces and ensure proper cleanliness and profile in accordance with SSPC standards
• Apply coatings (spray, brush, roll), including primers and finish coats, ensuring proper thickness and adherence to manufacturer and industry guidelines
• Follow all safety and environmental procedures, including PPE use, hazard recognition, and proper disposal of materials and waste
• Inspect work areas and equipment prior to use and safely operate tools and machinery (e.g., lifts, scaffolding, skid steers)
• Maintain and troubleshoot equipment to ensure safe operation and minimize downtime
• Conduct quality control checks, including surface inspections and coating thickness verification using appropriate tools
• Accurately track time, labor, and job-related documentation
• Collaborate with team members and communicate any safety concerns or operational issues to leadership
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and participate in ongoing training and skill development

What does it take to work for Groome Industrial Service Group?

• Passing pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing as applicable.
• Minimum 2 years' experience in industrial sector with blasting and painting expertise.
• Knowledge of current OSHA and other related safety requirements.
• Ability to work extended hours, overtime, weekends, and/or holidays, as needed.
• Willing to travel up to 80% of the year.
• Basic to intermediate communication skills in English (read, write, and speak).
• Ability to enter information in both handheld and desktop computers as necessary.
• Ability to work with limited supervision, have attention to detail, and strong initiative.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work within timelines.
• Ability to think logically, follow procedures, and make sound decisions.

• NACE / AMPP / SSPC credentials or certifications.
