About Marcurius Multi-Mission Solutions

Marcurius Multi-Mission Solutions is a fast-growing Defense technology company headquartered in Clearwater, Florida. Founded by US and UK veterans, Marcurius brings decades of frontline experience across Special Operations and Intelligence missions, with deep expertise in asymmetric warfare and the real-world employment of unmanned systems.

Marcurius is building a new kind of unmanned systems company – multi-domain, multi-platform, and mission-driven. We fuse battle-proven technologies, resilient command-and-control architectures, and operator-led doctrine to deliver capabilities that work in contested environments. Our initial focus is the rapid fielding of advanced Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs) for modern maritime operations.

Role Overview

Marcurius is seeking a detail-oriented, proactive Technical Writer to support its engineering team on a six-month, 1099 independent contractor engagement.

Working closely with hardware, software, systems, and test engineers, you will translate complex engineering inputs into accurate, usable, and controlled technical documentation for unmanned systems (UxV).

This is a hands-on documentation role focused on taking ownership of technical deliverables, capturing knowledge from subject matter experts, and keeping documentation aligned with rapidly evolving designs and test activities. Your work will help engineering teams focus on development, integration, and delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, edit, and maintain interface control documents (ICDs), system and software descriptions, test plans and reports, operating and maintenance manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and training materials.
  • Interview engineers and other subject matter experts to capture technical knowledge, clarify interfaces and operating concepts, and resolve gaps or inconsistencies in source material.
  • Structure multidisciplinary hardware, software, and systems information into clear documentation suited to its intended technical audience.
  • Maintain documentation templates, writing standards, revision histories, and controlled files using approved tools, including SharePoint.
  • Coordinate technical reviews and approvals with responsible engineers; incorporate feedback and track document status through release.
  • Update documentation as designs, interfaces, configurations, and test results evolve, maintaining traceability to approved engineering baselines where applicable.
  • Support internal reviews, program milestones, testing activities, and customer documentation deliverables as required.
  • Handle proprietary, customer, and export-controlled technical information only through authorized systems and in accordance with applicable requirements.
Required Qualifications
  • At least three years of professional technical writing experience supporting engineering or complex technology projects.
  • Demonstrated experience documenting both hardware and software systems, including interfaces or integration-related technical content.
  • Strong ability to interview engineers, organize technical inputs, and write accurately for engineering and operational audiences.
  • Excellent editing, proofreading, document-structuring, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Experience with document management, revision control, and collaborative review workflows; working knowledge of SharePoint.
  • Ability to manage multiple deliverables independently and collaborate effectively in a fast-moving, multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Ability to work onsite in Clearwater, Florida for the duration of the engagement.
Preferred Experience
  • Technical documentation experience in defense, aerospace, maritime, robotics, or autonomous systems.
  • Exposure to unmanned surface vessels (USVs), unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), or unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs).
  • Familiarity with DoD documentation practices, military standards (MIL-STD), S1000D, or Contract Data Requirements Lists (CDRLs).
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, architecture diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Experience supporting prototype development, system integration, testing, configuration management, or engineering change processes.
