Job summary

O\'Neil & Associates, Inc. in the United States seeks a Technical Writer II to lead the development of operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting manuals for complex mechanical systems.

You will support DoD and heavy equipment programs with actionable, technician-focused documentation based on hands-on system understanding. You will collaborate with mechanics, engineers, and subject matter experts to validate procedures, translate diagnostic knowledge into step-by-step instructions, and ensure

Qualifications

• 3–5+ years diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty or military equipment
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical data
• Experience using OEM diagnostic tools such as OBD II, CAT ET, Allison DOC, Bendix Diagnostic, Dearborn, WABCO Toolbox, or similar platforms
• Strong written communication skills and ability to translate technical info into manuals
• Experience supporting DoD programs or military equipment preferred

Responsibilities

• Develop and write technical manuals in accordance with customer specifications (including DoD standards)
• Create detailed troubleshooting procedures for electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
• Interpret and document wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and pneumatic system layouts
• Research system functionality using engineering drawings, OEM documentation, and hands-on evaluation
• Collaborate with mechanics, engineers, and subject matter experts to validate procedures
• Translate complex diagnostic processes into clear, step-by-step instructions
• Review and revise technical content for accuracy, clarity, and compliance
• Archive and organize technical data for future projects
• Track time spent on tasks and report project status to management
• Meet delivery deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Follow and promote safety protocols
• Assist with onboarding and mentoring team members as needed
