Job description

Technical Writer/Editor

Location: US-Remote

Overview

Advaned Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is seeking a Technical Writer/Editor to support the WTC Health Program. The role involves document development, editorial review, and clearance activities for technical documents such as operational documentation, administrative material, technical guidance, policy statements, scientific papers, and special reports. The candidate will work with subject matter experts to gather background information and ensure documents meet Program standards, applying knowledge of regulatory guidance and reference sources.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
  1. Develop a detailed working knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and administration of the WTC Health Program relevant to document preparation.
  2. Author complex written products that articulate, interpret, and explain policies and procedures in plain language for diverse audiences.
  3. Participate in content planning and production, ensuring adherence to timelines and coordinating with stakeholders.
  4. Develop procedures for managing various document types, including updating manuals and guiding staff through the process.
  5. Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop, review, and publish specialized content.
  6. Perform editorial reviews, including proofreading, formatting, copyediting, and content validation, applying advanced language skills.
  7. Ensure consistency across related products, reconciling contradictions and synthesizing information.
  8. Develop knowledge of XML authoring for content management and web publication.
  9. Support document clearance processes by preparing documents for review and securing approvals.
  10. Assist in document and records management to ensure accuracy and currency of project information.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Public Health, Public Policy, or relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of healthcare-related writing experience; experience in health communications or health plan environments preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong communication, attention to detail, and ability to interpret complex clinical information.
  • Skilled in technical writing, editing, proofreading, and project management.
  • Understanding of plain language principles and ability to convey complex information effectively.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and organizing materials according to standards.
