Qualifications

  • Produce high-quality documentation with minimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering, cybersecurity, software development, or IT operations.
  • Proficient with documentation tools such as MS Office, Adobe Acrobat, Confluence, SharePoint, Visio, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deliverables.
  • Experience with Agile development environments and tools (Jira, GitLab, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Creates, edits, and maintains a wide range of technical documents (manuals, SOPs, user guides, engineering docs, training materials).
  • Translates highly technical information for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Collaborates with engineers, SMEs, developers, analysts, and leadership to gather material and ensure accuracy.
  • Ensures documentation complies with customer standards, contract requirements, and federal guidelines (DoD, DHS, IC, NIST).
  • Develops and maintains templates, style guides, and version-control processes.
  • Reviews and edits documents for grammar, clarity, organization, and compliance with standards.
  • Supports proposal writing, technical volumes, and other BD documentation as needed.
  • Manages documentation repositories and configuration control using Confluence, SharePoint, Git, Jira.
  • Provides mentorship to junior writers and contributes to process improvements.
  • Participates in technical meetings and design reviews to capture requirements.

Overview

Abile Group has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a potential Technical Writer supporting a DoD Customer's Classified Network Services. The mission will include Operations, Compliance, Cyber Security, Customer Service, and Engineering. The right Information Systems Security Engineer candidate will possess the below skills and qualifications and be ready to handle all responsibilities independently and professionally.

Responsibilities
  • Creates, edits, and maintains a wide range of technical documents, including system manuals, standard operating procedures (SOPs), user guides, engineering documentation, training materials, and contract deliverables.
  • Translates highly technical information into clear, concise, and accessible content for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Collaborates with engineers, SMEs, developers, analysts, and program leadership to gather source material and validate technical accuracy.
  • Ensures all documentation complies with customer standards, contract requirements, and applicable federal guidelines (e.g., DoD, DHS, IC, NIST).
  • Develops and maintains document templates, style guides, and version‑control processes to support documentation consistency.
  • Reviews and edits documents for grammar, clarity, organization, and compliance with Peraton and customer standards.
  • Supports proposal writing, technical volumes, and other business development documentation as needed.
  • Manages documentation repositories and configuration control using approved tools (e.g., Confluence, SharePoint, Git, Jira).
  • Provides mentorship or guidance to junior writers and contribute to documentation process improvements.
  • Participates in technical meetings, design reviews, and customer briefings to capture requirements and updates.

Potential locations onsite in either Annapolis Junction, MD or Joint Base-Anacostia Bolling.

Qualifications

Clearance Required: TS/SCI.

Degree and Years of Experience: 5 to 8 years with BS/BA or 3 to 5 years with MS/MA or 0 to 2 years with PhD.

Required Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to produce high‑quality documentation with minimal supervision.
  • Strong understanding of technical concepts such as systems engineering, cybersecurity, software development, or IT operations.
  • Proficiency with documentation tools such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, Confluence, SharePoint, Visio, or similar platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple concurrent deliverables.
  • Experience with Agile development environments and tools (Jira, GitLab, etc.)

Desired Skills:

  • Experience supporting DoD, IC, or federal civilian agencies.
  • Familiarity with NIST standards, RMF documentation, or system accreditation packages.
  • Knowledge of XML‑based documentation or structured authoring tools.
  • Experience contributing to proposals or technical volumes.

Salary Range: $142,232.75 - $149,718.68

The estimate displayed represents the typicalsalaryrangefor this position. Salary is determined by factors including, but not limited togeographic location, position requirements, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
