Job summary

Abile Group, Inc. seeks a Technical Writer to support a DoD customer's Classified Network Services.

The role covers operations, compliance, cyber security, customer service, and engineering, with responsibilities to produce SSPs, CONOPS, SOPs, and RMF artifacts. You will translate complex cybersecurity concepts into clear documentation for technical and executive audiences, collaborate with cyber SMEs and engineering teams, and ensure alignment with DoD policy requirements.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in technical writing within cybersecurity, intelligence, defense, or federal environments.
  • Ability to translate complex cyber concepts for diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong RMF, NIST controls, and DoD cybersecurity policy knowledge.
  • Experience supporting a PMO or large federal program.
  • Ability to synthesize technical data from SMEs into structured docs.
  • Excellent editing and communication for technical/executive audiences.
  • Proficient with Confluence, SharePoint, Visio, Jira, and MS Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under tight deadlines.

  • Supports PMO governance with briefs, memos, minutes, and risk reporting.
  • Collaborates with cyber SMEs and engineering to validate accuracy.
  • Ensures compliance with NIST SP 800-53, RMF, ICDs and DoD policies.
  • Creates classified and unclassified documentation with proper handling.
  • Develops executive communication materials, cyber posture updates, and risk assessments.
  • Conducts QA reviews for clarity, accuracy, and PMO alignment.
  • Mentors junior writers and develops documentation standards.
  • Supports proposal development with technical volumes and past performance narratives.
  • Oversees prep of illustrations: drawings, diagrams, charts.

Overview

Abile Group has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a potential Technical Writer supporting a DoD Customer's Classified Network Services. The mission will include Operations, Compliance, Cyber Security, Customer Service, and Engineering. The right Information Systems Security Engineer candidate will possess the below skills and qualifications and be ready to handle all responsibilities independently and professionally.

Responsibilities
  • Develops and maintains advanced technical documentation including system security plans (SSPs), CONOPS, SOPs, RMF artifacts, cyber operational playbooks, architecture descriptions, and intelligence driven reports.
  • Translates complex cybersecurity and intelligence concepts—including threat analysis, defensive cyber operations, incident response, and system vulnerabilities—into clear, digestible content for diverse stakeholders.
  • Supports PMO governance by producing program briefs, decision memos, meeting minutes, milestone documentation, CDRL requirements, risk registers, and performance reporting aligned with federal and DoD acquisition frameworks.
  • Collaborates with cyber-SMEs and engineering teams to gather technical data, validate accuracy, and ensure documentation reflects current system configurations, security controls, and mission requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and DoD standards such as NIST SP 800 53, RMF, ICDs, DoDI 8510.01, and agency specific cybersecurity policies.
  • Creates classified and unclassified documentation following strict security handling procedures, version control, and dissemination protocols.
  • Develops communication materials for executive leadership, including intelligence summaries, cyber posture updates, risk assessments, and strategic program messaging.
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews to ensure clarity, consistency, technical accuracy, and adherence to PMO and agency style guides.
  • Mentors junior writers and contributes to documentation standards, templates, and best practices across the PMO.
  • Supports proposal development by drafting technical volumes, past performance narratives, and cyber capability descriptions.
    • Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts

Potential locations onsite in either Annapolis Junction, MD or Joint Base-Anacostia Bolling.

Qualifications

Clearance Required: TS/SCI.

Degree and Years of Experience: 5 to 8 years with BS/BA or 3 to 5 years with MS/MA or 0 to 2 years with PhD.

Desired Certifications:

  • Certifications such as Security+, CISSP, CEH, CCSP, or technical writing credentials.

Required Skills:

  • Extensive experience in technical writing within cybersecurity, intelligence, defense, or federal environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to write for highly technical cyber domains, including network security, cloud security, cyber operations, threat intelligence, and defensive tools.
  • Strong understanding of RMF, NIST controls, DoD cybersecurity policies, and intelligence community documentation requirements.
  • Experience supporting a Program Management Office or large scale federal program.
  • Ability to synthesize complex technical information from SMEs and convert it into structured, high quality documentation.
  • Exceptional editing, grammar, and communication skills with the ability to tailor content for technical and executive audiences.
  • Proficiency with documentation tools such as Confluence, SharePoint, Visio, Jira, and MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently at a senior level, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high quality products under tight deadlines.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience supporting cyber defense operations centers (CDOCs), SOCs, or intelligence analysis teams.
  • Familiarity with classified networks, cross domain solutions, and secure information handling.
  • Background in DoD acquisition, IC mission support, or federal cybersecurity programs.
  • Experience developing documentation for cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GovCloud).
  • Prior work with defense contractors, federal agencies, or intelligence community organizations.

Salary Range: $142,232.75 - $149,718.68

The estimate displayed represents the typicalsalaryrangefor this position. Salary is determined by factors including, but not limited togeographic location, position requirements, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
