Job summary

Abile Group, LLC seeks a Technical Writer to produce advanced technical documentation for DoD Classified Network Services, covering security plans, CONOPS, RMF artifacts, and playbooks.

You will translate complex cybersecurity concepts for diverse stakeholders, collaborate with cyber SMEs and engineers, and ensure PMO-aligned documentation reflecting current configurations and security controls.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in technical writing within cybersecurity, intelligence, defense, or federal environments.
  • Ability to write for highly technical cyber domains including network security, cloud security, cyber operations, threat intelligence, and defensive tools.
  • Strong understanding of RMF, NIST controls, DoD cybersecurity policies, and IC documentation requirements.
  • Experience supporting a Program Management Office or large-scale federal program.
  • Ability to synthesize complex technical information from SMEs into structured, high-quality documentation.
  • Exceptional editing, grammar, and communication skills for technical and executive audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains advanced technical documentation including SSPs, CONOPs, SOPs, RMF artifacts, and playbooks.
  • Translates cybersecurity concepts into clear content for diverse stakeholders.
  • Supports PMO governance with program briefs, memos, minutes, risks, and performance reports.
  • Collaborates with cyber-SMEs and engineers to verify accuracy and reflect current configurations.
  • Ensures compliance with DoD/NIST standards and security policies.
  • Creates classified/unclassified documentation following security procedures.
  • Develops executive communications and cyber posture updates.
  • Conducts QA to ensure clarity, consistency, and technical accuracy.
  • Mentors junior writers and contributes to documentation standards.

Job description

Abile Group has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a potential Technical Writer supporting a DoD Customer's Classified Network Services. The mission will include Operations, Compliance, Cyber Security, Customer Service, and Engineering. The right Information Systems Security Engineer candidate will possess the below skills and qualifications and be ready to handle all responsibilities independently and professionally.

  • Develops and maintains advanced technical documentation including system security plans (SSPs), CONOPS, SOPs, RMF artifacts, cyber operational playbooks, architecture descriptions, and intelligence driven reports.
  • Translates complex cybersecurity and intelligence concepts—including threat analysis, defensive cyber operations, incident response, and system vulnerabilities—into clear, digestible content for diverse stakeholders.
  • Supports PMO governance by producing program briefs, decision memos, meeting minutes, milestone documentation, CDRL requirements, risk registers, and performance reporting aligned with federal and DoD acquisition frameworks.
  • Collaborates with cyber-SMEs and engineering teams to gather technical data, validate accuracy, and ensure documentation reflects current system configurations, security controls, and mission requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with federal and DoD standards such as NIST SP 800 53, RMF, ICDs, DoDI 8510.01, and agency specific cybersecurity policies.
  • Creates classified and unclassified documentation following strict security handling procedures, version control, and dissemination protocols.
  • Develops communication materials for executive leadership, including intelligence summaries, cyber posture updates, risk assessments, and strategic program messaging.
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews to ensure clarity, consistency, technical accuracy, and adherence to PMO and agency style guides.
  • Mentors junior writers and contributes to documentation standards, templates, and best practices across the PMO.
  • Supports proposal development by drafting technical volumes, past performance narratives, and cyber capability descriptions.
    • Oversees preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts
Potential locations onsite in either Annapolis Junction, MD or Joint Base-Anacostia Bolling.
Clearance Required TS/SCI.
Degree and Years of Experience 5 to 8 years with BS/BA or 3 to 5 years with MS/MA or 0 to 2 years with PhD.
Desired Certifications
  • Certifications such as Security+, CISSP, CEH, CCSP, or technical writing credentials.
Required Skills

  • Ability to synthesize complex technical information from SMEs and convert it into structured, high quality documentation.
  • Exceptional editing, grammar, and communication skills with the ability to tailor content for technical and executive audiences.
  • Proficiency with documentation tools such as Confluence, SharePoint, Visio, Jira, and MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently at a senior level, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high quality products under tight deadlines.
Desired Skills
  • Experience supporting cyber defense operations centers (CDOCs), SOCs, or intelligence analysis teams.
  • Familiarity with classified networks, cross domain solutions, and secure information handling.
  • Background in DoD acquisition, IC mission support, or federal cybersecurity programs.
  • Experience developing documentation for cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GovCloud).
  • Prior work with defense contractors, federal agencies, or intelligence community organizations.
Salary Range $142,232.75 - $149,718.68

The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by factors including, but not limited to geographic location, position requirements, Federal Government contract labor categories, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
