We are seeking an experienced Technical Training Specialist (Level 2) for an on‑site contract in Austin, TX.
Responsibilities:
The Technical Training Specialist is responsible for preparing, conducting, and evaluating technical training programs, writing literature and materials used in training, and designing exercises to enhance instruction. This role delivers on‑site and web‑based courses covering various software solutions and leads the development of infrastructure for information delivery.
- Duties include creating instructor materials such as course outlines, background documents, instructional materials, and training aids for COTS products and in‑house IT solutions, including desktop support processes like Remote Access Systems (RAS).
- The specialist formats training materials created by other DIR staff, determines customer needs, and develops plans to meet those needs.
- Additional responsibilities include assisting in the design of computer‑based and multimedia curriculum; planning, directing, and conducting classroom, electronic, multimedia, simulator, and workshop‑based training; managing the training program in alignment with business needs, regulatory requirements, and the Quality Management System; supporting staff with productivity reporting; researching and recommending vendors and costs for training methods; staying current with developments in computer training and alternative instructional media; drafting curriculum that breaks complex subjects into instructional units; creating graphics and integrating them into curriculum; teaching short technical courses to maintain proficiency; incorporating new curriculum into instruction; developing professional classroom techniques; creating alternative teaching scenarios to maintain engagement; and performing test analysis, development, and revision of test items.
- The specialist also gathers, analyzes, translates, and composes technical information into clear materials for technical and non‑technical personnel, collects data to analyze audiences and training needs, and applies findings to successful training delivery.
- A basic understanding of EIR Accessibility and assistive technologies, as well as protocols for communicating with customers requiring special assistance, is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5–8 years of experience designing, developing, and implementing training curricula
- 5+ years’ experience conducting classes on SOPs for software solutions, IT security, IT system installation, software programming, system maintenance, repair, and operational support best practices
- 5+ years of extensive experience with web‑based learning management systems and eLearning authoring tools
- 5+ years of previous experience developing training programs including web‑based courses, instructor‑led courses, job aids, videos, and multimedia content
- Expert knowledge of MS Office Suite 2010 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- High aptitude and flexibility to deliver training on a wide range of software products
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of previous experience in delivering technical training in cloud‑based technologies
- 5+ years of knowledge of COTS products, in‑house IT solutions, and desktop support processes
- Experience teaching short technical courses and developing new instructional techniques
- Experience with accessibility protocols, EIR Accessibility, and assistive technologies
