Job summary

Anderson Trucking Service is seeking aTechnical Trainer and Quality Assurance Inspector - Trailers to deliver hands-on OJT and classroom training for trailer maintenance teams, ensuring safety practices and quality audits across ATS shops.

The candidate should have a 1.2-year degree in diesel/heavy truck or welding, 5+ years as a trailer mechanic with training experience, welding and hydraulics expertise, CMMS familiarity, MS Office proficiency, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

  • 1.2-year degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or equivalent welding program with 5+ years as a trailer mechanic.
  • Proven welding and fabrication experience.
  • Experience with hydraulics and small engines.
  • Excellent working knowledge of DOT safety standards.
  • Working knowledge of CMMS.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • Valid Class A driver’s license preferred.
  • Forklift certification and ability to train staff within 90 days.
  • MS Office proficiency (Word/Excel/Outlook).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Willing to travel frequently, including overnight travel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and ensure safety practices and policies are followed.
  • Provide hands-on OJT on the shop floor and assist with difficult diagnostics.
  • Conduct daily quality assurance inspections across ATS shops.
  • Travel to remote locations; approximately 8 weeks per year.
  • Use instructional materials and media to conduct lectures and hands-on training.
  • Evaluate trainee competency and provide feedback to shop management.
  • Identify trends and suggest improvements to meet goals.
  • Collaborate to design ongoing training for new and current employees.
  • Maintain master training records and certifications for maintenance staff.
  • Align actions with ATS values and mission.
  • Complete duties outside normal hours as needed.

Job description

Summary

The Technical Trainer and Quality Assurance Inspector -Trailers is responsible to deliver mechanic competency-based hands‑on OJT and classroom training for all trailer maintenance employees in a manner that prepares them for a variety of occupational opportunities in our shops that is reinforced by conducting quality assurance inspection audits.

Education and Experience
  • 1.2-year degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or equivalent welding program and 5 + years of experience as a trailer mechanic with training experience preferred.
  • 2. Must have proven experience in welding and fabricating.
  • 3. Must have experience with hydraulics and small engines.
  • 4. Excellent working knowledge of DOT and government safety standards.
  • 5. Working knowledge of a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • 6. Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage and prioritize workload in a fast‑paced environment.
  • 7. Strong interpersonal skills; able to establish trust and rapport with all levels of internal and external staff. Able to relate effectively to diverse cultures.
  • 8. Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate vehicles; a valid Class A driver’s license is preferred.
  • 9. Must have current forklift certification and the ability to train maintenance personnel within 90 days of employment.
  • 10. Must be able to demonstrate a proactive commitment to ATS corporate values and the success of all staff.
  • 11. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required.
  • 12. Excellent communication skills (written, listening, and verbal)
  • 13. Willing and able to travel frequently, including overnight travel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • 1. Assist in developing, implementing, and ensuring that appropriate safety practices and policies are always used, employees are knowledgeable of safety techniques, and all equipment is maintained in a safe working condition, such as, but not limited to, forklift, Right to Know, Lockout/Tagout and PPE, etc.
  • 2. Conduct daily work directly on the shop floor by providing hands‑on OJT to all mechanics and providing direct hands‑on assistance during difficult-to-diagnose complaints while following OEM and ATS warrantable, and or non‑warrantable standard repair guidelines and SOP's.
  • 3. Conduct daily workmanship quality assurance inspection audits as outlined in program SOP to ensure all preventive maintenance, repair guidelines, and SOP's are constantly followed across all ATS shops.
  • 4. Must be able to travel to remote locations, travel 8 weeks a year is required.
  • 5. Use effective competency-based teaching techniques, instructional materials, and appropriate media support to conduct classroom lectures, coursework, and hands‑on qualifications to prepare all employees with practical and essential skills.
  • 6. Evaluate and document employees' competency attainment, course progress, work‑based learning experiences, and workplace behaviors and provide feedback to shop management.
  • 7. Identify trends and suggest changes/improvements necessary to achieve goals.
  • 8. Collaborate with the team to design and implement ongoing training for new and current employees.
  • 9. Assist in maintaining a system of evaluations to rate each mechanic's skill level and match that skill level to the work assigned to them to provide feedback to shop management.
  • 10. Assist in maintaining master training records and certifications for all maintenance employees.
  • 11. Understands and consistently performs in accordance with ATS's Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • 12. Support ATS' culture by aligning actions, behaviors, performance, and decisions in accordance with the Company's values as set forth in our All-Employee Competencies.
  • 13. Complete work responsibilities outside of normal business hours as needed and frequent travel is required.
  • 14. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Frequently inspecting and assessing equipment to determine whether to replace or repair and the best approach to replace/repair.

Exposure to:

Loud noises constantly require hearing protection.

Temperature extremes intermittently due to outside weather conditions.

Dirt, dust, grease, chemicals, and odors constantly.

Situations requiring eye protection and steel toed boots and when welding, an approved shield.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated base salary range for this position is $63,000 to $81,000. Base salary offered is determined by relevant experience, education, certifications, and geographic as compared to others doing substantially similar work. In addition to the base salary, employees may be eligible for performance-based incentives, which can vary depending on individual and/or company performance.
