Job summary

Anderson Trucking Service, Inc. is hiring a Trailer Technician to inspect, service, repair and perform preventative maintenance on ATS-owned trailers.

You will work on braking systems, electrical components, steering, hydraulics, and welding/fabrication, ensuring compliance with ATS and DOT standards. The role requires strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to work independently within a team.

Qualifications

  • Two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program or 1–3 years related field experience preferred.
  • Good working knowledge of DOT regulations and out-of-service parameters for tractors trailers and equipment.
  • Good working knowledge of trailer maintenance and diagnostic software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections on incoming and outgoing trailers to ensure safety and efficiency.
  • Complete DOT inspections on outgoing trailers and verify repairs.
  • Ensure safety procedures, PPE use, and proper documentation.
  • Move tractors and trailers for maintenance and repair.
  • Weld and fabricate parts as needed and manage repair orders.

What you will do.

ATS technicians are trained to provide quality maintenance on our growing fleet of over-the-road trucks and trailers. You'll perform a variety of work including, inspecting, diagnosing, replacing and repairing brake systems ABS, electrical components, steering systems, multi-axle alignments, hydraulic systems, welding/fabrication of steel and aluminum and related equipment. You'll work independently while being part of a great team!

Summary

The Trailer Technician Level 3 is responsible for the inspection, service, repair and preventative maintenance of the various types of ATS owned trailers by using ATS and industry standard methods and criteria to ensure the trailer is safe to be on the road. Functions of this position include: inspecting, diagnosing, replacing and repairing brake systems ABS, electrical components, steering systems, multi-axle alignments, hydraulic systems, welding / fabrication of steel and aluminum and related equipment

Education and Experience
  • 1. Two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or a minimum 1 to 3 years of equivalent experience in related field e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair, etc. and experience in cutting and welding is preferred.
  • 2. Good working Knowledge of DOT regulations and Out of Service parameters for tractors, trailers and accessorial equipment.
  • 3. Good working knowledge of trailer maintenance and diagnostic software.
  • 4. A valid driver's license, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred but not required.
  • 5. Must be able to operate all related shop equipment.
  • 6. Must be DOT certified and forklift certified, or able to demonstrate through on the job inspections and certified by the ATS trainer within 90 days of hire if work experience is applicable.
  • 7. Good communications skills (written, verbal, listening).
  • 8. An understanding of basic computer operations.
  • 9. Good decision-making, problem-solving, attention to detail and customer service skills (internal/external).
  • 10. Competent in using computers including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • 11. Basicelectrical troubleshooting skills.
  • 12. Ability to read installation manuals and understand manufacturer training.
  • 13. Working knowledge of proper procedures for handling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
Level 2 have in addition to above
  • 1.Two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or a minimum 3+years of equivalent experience in related field e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair, etc. and experience in cutting and welding is preferred.
  • 2.Two years plus in welding Mig/Aluminum
  • 3. Must be DOT Certified
  • 4.Good electrical troubleshooting skills
Level 1 in addition to above
  • 1.Two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or a minimum 5+years of equivalent experience in related field e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, trailer repair, etc. and experience in cutting and welding is preferred.
  • 2. Must have 4+ years of experience MIG/Aluminum Welding
  • 3.Advanced electrical troubleshooting skills
  • 4.Advancedknowledge of Hydraulic systems and wireless steer systems. Can diagnosis on both Tridec and Lodar systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • 1. Perform inspections on incoming (Safety Lane) and outgoing company owned trailers using ATS, DOT, and OSHA guidelines to ensure the trailer is operating safely and efficiently.
  • 2. Complete DOT inspections on outgoing trailers to verify that all necessary repairs have been made.
  • 3. Ensure safety procedures are implemented and followed and PPE is used at all times.
  • 4. Move tractors and trailers in and out of the shop for maintenance.
  • 5. Inspects and perform all minor and major trailer maintenance including welding, tire replacement, pressure checks, brakes, lights, and safety equipment and submits reports indicating condition of equipment.
  • 6. Weld metal to repair parts or fabricate replacement parts.
  • 7. Open repair orders and charge out all parts used on trucks and trailers.
  • 8. Participate in online OEM training.
  • 9. Remain technically proficient in all areas of the shop including trailer, tire, and basic parts.
  • 10. Utilize appropriate resources, such as the parts manual and computer, service bulletins and other resources to research problems, determine most effective and efficient method for repair.
  • 11. Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and take appropriate actions, recommend process changes, and initiate improvements.
  • 12. Be a positive role model for all team members providing support and enthusiasm – creating a professional, positive work environment.
  • 13. Performs shop clean-up and housekeeping responsibilities as well as other miscellaneous related duties as assigned.
  • 14. Must furnish basic tools and ATS will provide specialty tools to perform functions of the position.
  • 15. Meet all ATS and department objectives and deadlines.
  • 16. Follow all ATS and department policies and procedures.
  • 17. Works within budget that is set for the department.

  • 19. Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours including Saturday shifts, and infrequent travel may be required.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • The anticipated hourly pay range for this position is between $25.50 - $41.00 plus $4/hr. 2nd shiftdifferential.This position may be eligible for a $2000.00 sign-on bonus, subject to eligibility requirements. Hourly pay rate offered is determined by relevant experience, education, certificates, and geographic location as compared to others doing substantially similar work. In addition to the hourly rate of pay, employees may be eligible for performance-based incentives, which can vary depending on individual and/or company performance.
