Job summary

Fairwater in Dania Beach, FL is seeking a Technical Superintendent to lead vessel technical operations and dockyard activities. You will supervise ship staff and contractors, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant vessel performance, with a focus on asset protection and cost control.

The role requires a USCG Unlimited Third Engineer’s license or higher, plus experience as a Licensed Engineering Officer and shoreside technical work.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering and/or Naval Architecture or equivalent experience.
• Maritime Academy background and USCG Unlimited Third Engineer’s license or higher.
• Experience as Licensed Engineering Officer with shoreside technical role or shipyard supervision.

Responsibilities

• Ensure vessels operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulations while protecting asset value.
• Provide day-to-day technical support to assigned vessels and monitor performance.
• Manage vessel repair and maintenance budgets in coordination with Marine Superintendents and Operations.
• Oversee repairs, regulatory surveys, dry-dock events, emergencies, and modifications.
• Develop Chief Engineers through coaching and performance management.
• Act as primary technical coordination contact for assigned vessels.
• Visit vessels to verify condition and compliance with Fairwater standards.
• Ensure maintenance software is used properly and reports are complete.
• Stay current with flag state, class standards, and international regulations.
• Coordinate incident investigations when needed.
• Maintain technical files and vessel history documents.

Reports To: Technical Director

Schedule: Monday through Friday business hours and additional as required

Location: Dania Beach, FL.

Position Supervised: Ship staff and contractors as required

Required Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in marine engineering and/or Naval Architecture or equivalent experience.

Experience

Combined experience sailing as a Licensed Engineering Officer and working in a shoreside technical role. Shipyard experience will be accepted in lieu of shipboard experience. Past dry-dock or major repair supervisory experience

Duties And Responsibilities

• Ensure vessels are operated in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner, ensuring compliance with Class and Statutory and Company regulations while protecting asset value.
• Provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to assigned vessels. Monitor vessel performance and ensure follow-up action.
• Manage vessel Repair and maintenance budgets and operating expenditures in coordination with the relevant Marine Superintendents and Operations teams
• Responsible for the overall management of repair and maintenance for assigned vessels, including routine voyage repairs, regulatory surveys, dry docking shipyard events, emergencies, casualties, and modifications.
• Promotes a professional relationship with the officers and crew. Set clear goals and expectations and coach and develop Chief Engineers in line with Competence and Performance Management objectives. Participate in interviews and make recommendations regarding new hires and promotions.
• Act as the primary contact for technical coordination for assigned vessels
• Carry out regular vessel visits to confirm condition and compliance with Fairwater Operating Standards and provide Vessel Condition reports.
• Monitor and ensure maintenance software (NS) is utilized properly, verifying repairs and maintenance are properly reported, and standard jobs are followed.
• Remain abreast of and ensure compliance with applicable flag state and class standards, international regulations, and audit results.
• Focal point for port states, Class, terminals, USCG, etc. Assist and participate in Incident investigations.
• Manage technical files, including service reports, machinery history, and regulatory-required documentation
