DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS

This is a technical position responsible for developing standards for computer products utilized by a department. The employee reports directly to and works under the general supervision of a senior level employee with leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment. Does related duties as required.

DUTIES

Tenant, Infrastructure, and Identity Management

• Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, and cloud tenant administration.
• Cloud, hybrid, and on-premises identity, authentication, and access management.
• Cloud, hybrid, and on-premises infrastructure and platform service support.
• Development and maintenance of Infrastructure as Code (IaC), automation, and CI/CD solutions.
• System support of cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments.

Email and Modern Communication Services

• Design, implementation, and troubleshooting of messaging, email routing, and collaboration services.
• Support of email security and authentication technologies, including SPF, DKIM, and DMARC.

Security and Data Lifecycle Management

• Cybersecurity, data protection, backup, retention, archiving, and eDiscovery solutions.
• Evaluation of cybersecurity posture and maturation through risk assessments and alignment with frameworks such as NIST CSF 2.0.

Customer Service and Documentation

• Technical project facilitation, solution design, implementation, and operational support.
• Customer support and communication with component school districts.
• Troubleshooting of infrastructure, identity, security, networking, and cloud services.
• Evaluation of emerging technologies and technical gaps, contributing to modernization, automation, and digital transformation initiatives.
• Development and delivery of technical training, documentation, and knowledge transfer.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. 1. Civil Service eligibility as a Technical Specialist: Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus either:
2. (A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered four (4) year college or university with a Bachelor's degree, plus one (1) year of full-time or its part-time equivalent experience in all of the following: evaluating, recommending, installing AND utilizing commercial software packages, networking products, and common hardware devices; OR,
3. (B) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) year college or university with an Associate's degree, plus three (3) years experience as described in (A) above; OR,
4. (C) Five (5) years' experience as described in (A) above; OR,
5. (D) Any equivalent combination of training and experience as described by the limits of (A), (B), and (C ),
