Job summary

HDR is seeking a Technical Specialist in Illinois to execute engineering tasks under licensed supervision, produce CAD drawings, and prepare calculations and specifications for power-system projects.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in engineering, familiarity with industry standards, and strong communication skills. The role supports multi-disciplinary environments and requires collaboration with Project Engineers and BIM specialists.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of engineering experience in the discipline to be supported.
  • Knowledge of industry standards specific to the discipline being supported.
  • Aptitude and demonstrated hands-on experience with computer applications specific to the discipline.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Active participant in an employee-owned culture.

Responsibilities

  • Perform engineering assignments under the direct supervision of a licensed engineer.
  • Design tasks involving judgment in evaluating, selecting and applying engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Produce design drawings and construction documents using CAD and other software.
  • Prepare design or quantity calculations and specifications and contract documents.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines as necessary.
  • Conduct analyses to develop power-related design options or recommendations and assist in project deliverables.
  • Complete projects with clear objectives and limited variables.
  • Work independently on small projects or assist senior engineers on larger projects.
  • Collaborate with Project Engineers, EITs, Designers, or BIM Specialists as needed.

Education

Associate's degree in engineering or related field of study or equivalent work experience
Bachelor's degree in engineering
Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate

Technical Specialist

We'll count on you to:

  • Perform engineering assignments under the direct supervision of a licensed engineer
  • Design tasks involving judgment in evaluating, selecting and applying engineering techniques and procedures
  • Production of design drawings and construction documents through the use of computer aided design and other software
  • Preparation of design or quantity calculations
  • Preparation of specifications and contract documents
  • Coordination with other disciplines as necessary
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervising engineer
  • Conduct analyses to develop power-related design options or recommendations, and assist in the preparation of project deliverables (examples include engineering drawing packages, cost estimates, and project specifications)
  • Perform routine engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures
  • Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables.
  • Work independently on small projects, or assist more-senior engineers / professionals on larger projects
  • Work with assistance from Project Engineers, other Engineers In-Training (EITs), Designers, or BIM Specialists as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary environments
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate
Required Qualifications
