Job summary

Comlux America LLC, based in Indianapolis, Indiana, seeks a Technical Publications Writer / Illustrator to develop and maintain VIP aircraft documentation, including ICA, AFMS, ACOM, and safety materials.

You will transform engineering data into clear manuals, work with cross-functional teams, ensure FAA/EASA compliance, and support publication quality across aircraft programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Communication, Aviation Technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Graphic Communications, Aeronautics, or related discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant aviation technical publications experience will be considered.
  • Minimum three (3) years of technical writing or technical publications experience within aviation or aerospace.
  • Experience supporting aircraft modification, aircraft completion, maintenance, or certification programs preferred.
  • Experience developing FAA or EASA regulatory documentation preferred.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand engineering drawings, aircraft system schematics, and technical specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret engineering drawings, electrical schematics, system diagrams, and substantiation reports to develop technical publications supporting aircraft certification and customer delivery.
  • Produce clear, concise, and technically accurate procedural documentation for aircraft maintenance personnel, operators, inspectors, and flight crews.
  • Create and revise technical illustrations, exploded views, diagrams, and graphics supporting engineering and maintenance documentation.
  • Develop installation photographs and visual references using digital photography to support technical publications.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production to validate installation procedures and maintenance instructions prior to aircraft delivery.
  • Review aircraft configurations to ensure documentation accurately reflects each aircraft's unique customer configuration.
  • Coordinate with Certification Engineers to ensure documentation complies with FAA, EASA, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Perform technical editing and quality reviews of publications to ensure accuracy, consistency, completeness, and compliance with company standards.
  • Maintain document configuration control and revision history throughout each aircraft program.
  • Support engineering change activities by updating technical publications to reflect design revisions and production changes.
  • Participate in customer documentation reviews and support aircraft delivery documentation packages.
  • Assist in developing company documentation standards, templates, style guides, and publication processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to technical documentation, document management, and publication quality.

Role Description

The Technical Publications Writer / Illustrator is responsible for developing, illustrating, and maintaining technicalpublications supporting VIP aircraft completion, refurbishment, modification,maintenance, and Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) programs.

This position transforms engineering data,certification documentation, and aircraft installation information into clear,accurate, and regulatory-compliant technical manuals, Instructions forContinued Airworthiness (ICA), Aircraft Flight Manuals (AFM), Aircraft CrewOperating Manuals (ACOM), Cabin Safety Briefing materials, ComponentMaintenance Manuals (CMM), and other customer deliverables.

Working closely with Engineering, Certification,Production, Quality, Program Management, and Flight Operations, the TechnicalPublications Writer / Illustrator ensures all documentation accurately reflectsthe completed aircraft configuration while meeting FAA, EASA, customer, andcompany standards.

Essential Job Functions

Minimum Qualifications, Education andExperience

Work Environment

This position is primarilybased in an office environment and may require occasional time in an aircrafthangar or production environment. The role may involve:
