Technical Project Manager (TPM) 2

Location: Richland, WA (on-site duty station)

Pay Rate: $67–$73/hr

Contract: Contract assignment of up to five (5) years, with possible extension or conversion

Work Schedule: Four 10-hour days (4/10s), adjusted to align with project requirements

Clearance: No DOE clearance required; Laboratory A-Level access required

About the Role

We are recruiting on behalf of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for a Technical Project Manager (TPM) 2. This position works from a duty station in Richland, Washington and supports and manages discrete technical procurement scope, ensuring timely completion of projects and deliverables. The TPM 2 oversees technical requirements; defines and oversees project deliverables, budgets, schedules, and risks; and in most cases leads the project team in planning, tracking, and executing scope from initiation through turnover.

Project activities are managed in alignment with the Laboratory’s prime contract, National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), and Department of Energy (DOE) O 413.3B requirements. Work is organized into control accounts and corresponding work packages that define the tasks necessary to meet programmatic objectives. The TPM 2 reports to the Manager of Projects and is responsible for the day-to-day administrative and operational management of an assigned project or program area.

All scope supported and managed by the TPM 2 is executed within a DOE Hazard Category 2, Security Classification 1 facility. Prior experience in a highly regulated and proceduralized nuclear, DOE, and/or NNSA environment is essential to the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support and manage discrete technical procurement scope from initiation through turnover, ensuring timely completion of projects and deliverables.
  • Define and oversee project deliverables, budgets, schedules, and risks, and lead the project team in planning, tracking, and executing assigned scope.
  • Manage technical requirements for assigned scope and maintain alignment with NNSA and DOE O 413.3B requirements.
  • Manage project activities within assigned control accounts and the corresponding work packages that define the tasks necessary to meet programmatic objectives.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, and standards related to construction and work execution within a nuclear facility.
  • Support the development and monitoring of program budgets.
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams, support departments, and matrixed resources.
  • Perform the day-to-day administrative and operational management of the assigned project or program area.

Required Education & Experience

Requires a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and five (5) years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Top Skills & Requirements

  • Prior experience managing project, construction, and/or procurement scope in a highly regulated and proceduralized nuclear, DOE, and/or NNSA environment.
  • Relevant prior experience working under DOE O 413.3B Capital Line Item projects, and/or certifications in Earned Value Management systems, are preferred.
  • Experience in complex procurement, fabrication, construction, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities conducted under Nuclear Quality Assurance-1 (NQA-1) requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience as a Control Account Manager under the requirements of an Earned Value Management System, or equivalent.
  • Certifications relevant to Earned Value Management systems.
  • Prior experience supporting DOE O 413.3B Capital Line Item projects.
  • Prior experience with procurement, fabrication, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities performed under NQA-1 requirements.

Contract Details

Duration: Contract assignment of up to five (5) years. The position may be extended or converted at the discretion of the hiring organization; extension and conversion are not guaranteed.

Work Schedule: Four 10-hour days (4/10s), adjusted as needed to align with scope and project requirements.

Overtime: Overtime and on-call are not anticipated for this position.

Anticipated Start: On or about September 28, 2026.

Travel

Travel may be required as needed, based on work location and project assignment.
