Job summary

The ARM Institute in Pittsburgh is seeking a Technology Project Manager to lead technical projects advancing robotics, AI, and advanced manufacturing. Responsibilities

  • Lead technical projects from award through closeout within scope, time, and budget.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, milestones, and resources.
  • Monitor performance, progress, risks, and financial status across the lifecycle.
  • Coordinate resources and activities to achieve program objectives.
  • Conduct regular reviews and implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare mitigation plans for risks and schedule impacts.
  • Report performance using technical, financial, and operational metrics.
  • Engage with consortium members, sponsors, and internal teams to align on goals.
  • Ensure timely deliverables, documentation, and reporting; support contract compliance.
  • Contribute to process improvements and best practices across PM activities.

Position Overview

The ARM Institute is seeking a Technology Project Manager to manage technical projects that advance the development, validation, and adoption of robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and advanced manufacturing technologies. Reporting to the Director, Technology Portfolio Manager, this role oversees project execution from initiation through closeout, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements and organizational objectives.

The Technology Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for assigned projects, collaborating with consortium members, government sponsors, industry partners, and internal stakeholders to manage project performance, mitigate risks, and drive successful project outcomes. This position combines technical project management, stakeholder engagement, and cross-functional coordination to support ARM's mission of strengthening U.S. manufacturing through the adoption of robotics and AI.

This hybrid position is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and requires occasional travel to customer sites, consortium meetings, and industry events.

Responsibilities
Technology Project Management
  • Manage technical projects from award through project closeout, ensuring deliverables are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, milestones, and resource allocations.
  • Monitor project performance, technical progress, risks, and financial status throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate project resources and activities to achieve program objectives.
  • Conduct regular project reviews and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Develop mitigation plans to address project risks, issues, and schedule impacts.
  • Measure and report project performance using established technical, financial, and operational metrics.
Project Execution
  • Manage development, integration, validation, qualification, and technology demonstration activities.
  • Coordinate technical reviews, project meetings, and milestone reviews.
  • Ensure timely completion of project deliverables and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation and records.
  • Support contract compliance, project reporting, and deliverable tracking.
  • Assist with project closeout activities and lessons learned documentation.
Customer & Stakeholder Engagement
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned consortium members, principal investigators, customers, and government sponsors.
  • Build collaborative relationships with industry, academia, government agencies, and internal teams.
  • Facilitate communication among project stakeholders to ensure alignment and successful executive reviews.
Collaboration and Process Improvement
  • Collaborate with Finance, Contracts, Membership, Business Development, Communications, and Executive Leadership to support successful program execution.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of project management processes, templates, and best practices.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Robotics, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • One (1) or more years of experience managing technical projects, engineering programs, manufacturing initiatives, or advanced technology projects.
  • Thorough understanding of project management principles, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to travel as required, estimated at 25%.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with government agencies, manufacturing organizations, research institutions, or technology developers.
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), Manufacturing USA Institutes, or federally funded research and development programs.
  • Experience with robotics, artificial intelligence, industrial automation, digital engineering, or advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Familiarity with Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), Manufacturing Readiness Levels (MRLs), or systems engineering principles.
