What you’ll do

We’re looking for an experienced Manager with outstanding technical, program, and people management skills. As a Manager of a team of TPMs, you will support your team members in leading cross-functional initiatives spanning the organization. You will focus on developing careers, setting guidelines, sharing best practices, and providing hands-on coaching and mentorship for your reports. You will also act as a TPM on select cross-cutting projects as needed. You will partner with engineering and product leaders to define the strategy and roadmap, ensuring that we deliver programs aligned with our goals. Effective Technical Program Managers at Stripe always bias towards driving the right solutions for our users and stakeholders, with a focus on delivering long-term impact for the product and Stripe. You’ll do this even when it’s not the easiest path and requires trade-offs. You will anticipate challenges and opportunities to enable our teams to operate at their best, and eliminate unnecessary efforts in delivering results.

Responsibilities

• Build, lead, and manage high-performing teams and individuals across multiple locations, including conducting performance reviews, providing ongoing feedback, and supporting career growth
• Define and execute long-term vision and multi-year strategy for company-wide programs in collaboration with product management and engineering leadership/executives
• Partner with leaders to set the strategy of the overall group and define the operating model
• Establish standards for program execution by ensuring teams adopt effective operational cadences with clear communication and proactive risk management
• Apply technical expertise to enhance program execution
• Deliver value through strong collaboration with multiple stakeholders across Stripe
• Mentor and coach managers and senior contributors to foster healthy and well-executing cross-functional teams

Minimum requirements

• 3+ years of management experience of varying seniority, including team growth and people development
• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, systems engineering, or technical product/program management
• Extensive experience in talent development through coaching, mentoring, and career discussions
• Experience leading technical programs from conception to delivery at scale, managing teams of TPMs with similar experience
• Ability to operate autonomously and lead across multiple teams and disciplines across different time zones
• Strong critical thinking and thought leadership skills

Preferred qualifications

• Experience working with geographically distributed teams
• Experience managing teams that designed and operated critical infrastructure
• Empathy for customer needs combined with visionary thinking
• Excitement for cross-organizational collaboration within Stripe
• Past experience as an engineer or in a similar technical role
