Ronk Electrical Industries. Technical Product Specialist is a hands-on, customer-facing product expert who prepares quotations for standard, configured, and customized Ronk products.

This position serves as a subject-matter expert across the Ronk product portfolio, helping customers, representatives, distributors, internal sales teams, and fellow Quotation Specialists understand product applications, options, requirements, and limitations.

Qualifications

• Three or more years of relevant experience in electrical products or related field.
• Ability to read one-line diagrams, drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules.
• Experience preparing takeoffs, estimates, quotations, or detailed proposals.
• Strong verbal and written communication to explain technical information.

Responsibilities

• Respond to RFQs and product inquiries from customers and internal teams.
• Clarify application requirements including voltage, phase, amperage, and environment.
• Read diagrams and specifications and perform takeoffs for product selection.
• Recommend standard products and configurations with clear tradeoffs.
• Prepare timely quotations documenting scope and pricing.
• Coordinate opportunities across Engineering, Production, Supply Chain, Sales, and Finance.
• Maintain quotation records and follow up on technical questions.
• Serve as primary product-knowledge resource across Ronk portfolio.
• Develop and deliver product training and create guides and checklists.

Job description

The Technical Product Specialist is a hands-on, customer-facing product expert who prepares quotations for standard, configured, and customized Ronk products. This position serves as a subject-matter expert across the Ronk product portfolio, helping customers, representatives, distributors, internal sales teams, and fellow Quotation Specialists understand product applications, options, requirements, and limitations.

The specialist reviews RFQs, one-line diagrams, specifications, and equipment schedules; performs takeoffs and practical application calculations; and works across Sales, Engineering, Production, and Supply Chain to develop accurate, practical solutions. The position also serves as Ronk's primary resource for product training and knowledge tools. Success requires electrical aptitude, technical curiosity, strong communication, and sound judgment.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to inbound RFQs, product questions, and application inquiries from customers, representatives, distributors, contractors, engineers, and internal teams.
• Clarify application requirements including voltage, phase, amperage, source and switching needs, enclosure or environmental requirements, installation constraints, and schedule.
• Read and interpret one-line diagrams, specifications, drawings, equipment schedules, and bills of material; perform takeoffs and practical calculations needed for product selection.
• Recommend appropriate standard products, options, accessories, or approved configurations and explain product ratings, capabilities, limitations, and tradeoffs clearly.
• Prepare timely, accurate quotations that document scope, assumptions, exclusions, pricing, options, lead time, and quotation validity.

• Maintain accurate quotation and opportunity records, manage revisions and clarifications, and follow up on open technical questions and assigned quotes.
• Serve as the primary product-knowledge resource across the Ronk portfolio; support fellow Quotation Specialists with product selection, application questions, customer-job review, and complex quotations.
• Develop and deliver product training for internal teams, sales representatives, distributors, and customers; create and maintain product-selection guides, application checklists, FAQs, and training materials.

Qualifications Required

• Three or more years of relevant experience in electrical products, electrical distribution, estimating, quotations, applications, technical inside sales, contracting, manufacturing, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of electrical fundamentals and the ability to read one-line diagrams, drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules.
• Experience preparing takeoffs, estimates, quotations, product configurations, or technically detailed proposals.
• Professional phone and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly to customers with different levels of expertise.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and comfort managing multiple active requests and deadlines.
• Associate degree or technical training in an electrical or related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred

• Experience with phase converters, switches, transfer equipment, generator connection or tap boxes, meter sockets, switchgear, panels, transformers, controls, or other power-distribution products.
• Experience with an electrical manufacturer, distributor, contractor, engineering firm, or independent manufacturer's representative.
• Familiarity with ERP systems ( Epicor, SAP etc), AutoCAD or drawing viewers, PDF markup, or structured quotation tools.

Working at Ronk

This position works in a collaborative, mid-size Illinois manufacturing environment where employees contribute across teams. The role is primarily office-based with regular computer and phone use, occasional time on the production floor, and limited travel as needed.
