Qualifications

Technical Leader - Nuclear Research

Job Summary and Description:

Conducts independent research and technical assessments in nuclear engineering, energy systems, and emerging technologies supporting nuclear power plant performance, new nuclear deployment, decarbonization, and member-focused innovation initiatives.

Key Responsibilities And Requirements
  • Works independently and with others on technical activities with little supervision.
  • Conducts technical searches and analyzes information in support of the project team.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for highly specialized technical objectives or problems where the relationships between cause and effect are difficult to establish and little or no precedence exists, and the use of creative and imaginative thinking is required.
  • Applies technical expertise in nuclear engineering, nuclear infrastructure development, new nuclear deployment, decarbonization, advanced energy systems, engineering project delivery, autonomous operations, and nuclear power plant lifecycle activities.
  • Understanding of nuclear industry needs, technology trends, and engineering challenges across the nuclear plant lifecycle. Understanding of nuclear facility design, construction, startup, commissioning, operational readiness, and engineering challenges associated with new nuclear deployment and operating plants.
  • Conducts technical and economic assessments supporting nuclear infrastructure development, advanced reactor deployment, energy transition initiatives, and strategic planning studies.
  • Supports international technical collaboration activities involving utilities, regulators, research institutions, academia, vendors, and international organizations.
  • Demonstrates leadership in customer relations and delivery of high-quality technical products, with strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
Additional Requirements
  • Provides assistance to the EPRI sales staff in Member Services and EPRI International.
  • Communicates strategies and results, written and verbal, to program members, potential members and external stakeholders through guidelines, reports, meetings, webcasts, workshops, and conferences.
  • Ability to collaborate with other EPRI teams and technical programs.
  • Leads or supports planning and execution of complex research, and engineering projects, including technical scope development, schedule management, budgeting, risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, and delivery of technical products.
  • Manages small or medium (less complex) projects including budgets and resources.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with national and international technical networks including utilities, regulators, vendors, research institutes, academia, international organizations, engineering consultancies, and industry associations. Develops research or services opportunities of value to EPRI members that fit EPRI’s mission and capabilities. This will include solving customer problems, producing insights and information vital to the members, and delivering information in a manner that members and customers can and will apply.
  • Supports proposal efforts and new promotional work.
  • Continues to provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline required.
  • Master's Degree in Nuclear Engineering, Energy Systems, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical discipline preferred.
Experience
  • 8-10 years of experience in one or more of the following fields: Nuclear engineering, nuclear research or nuclear infrastructure development, Utility engineering support, energy project delivery or large infrastructure industrial project management, Technical consulting, or experience with international nuclear organizations or research institutes.

These include the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Part 810 nuclear export regulations, and the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
