Job Description Summary

The TLA demonstrates the ability to perform phlebotomy and various technical and clerical functions in the Laboratory, based on campus needs. Performs routine procedures following lab guidelines, focusing on customer service, teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, communication, and personal excellence. Handles blood, tissue, fecal matter, sputum, urine, spinal fluid, and other body fluids, which may be contaminated with infectious diseases like HIV and other blood-borne pathogens.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • 70% Phlebotomy and specimen processing, adhering to safety and infection control practices.
  • Providing customer service to clinicians and clients, communicating professionally via phone with staff and patients, and using service recovery when necessary.
  • 15% Managing computer-related tasks (e.g., LIS, e-Source).
  • 5% Training new employees and students.
  • 5% Ensuring regulatory compliance (e.g., CAP, OSHA, JCAHO, CMS, OSH, lab policies).
  • 5% Maintaining competencies and completing mandatory education (ACE). Performing miscellaneous tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Driver's license from the Department of Motor Vehicles.
Additional Job Description

Specialized Knowledge: Customer service, computer skills, communication, medical terminology.

6 months to 1 year experience in phlebotomy and/or specimen processing. Associates working in skilled nursing facilities must have an active driver’s license and personal auto insurance.
